BOSTON - The top civil rights enforcer in the Clinton administration announced Thursday he will seek the Democratic nomination for Massachusetts governor in 2006. Deval Patrick cited what he said were weaknesses in the economy, business development, public education and health care.

"We don't suffer from a lack of ideas, but from a failure of leadership," Patrick said in a statement. "Not only are we losing jobs and population, but we are losing faith in ourselves."

Like Robert Reich, another Clinton appointee going for Massachusetts governor.

I am surprised this state keeps electing Republican governors. We'll see what happens.  It should be interesting, with Romney pushing issues like a gay marriage ban and re-introduction of the death penalty.

We'll see just how liberal Massachusetts voters really are.

I would be very surprised if he wins the nomination.  Except this week, AG Tom Reilly and SoS Bill Galvin are getting most attention from the media.

My expectation is Healey vs. Reilly.
