Why do all of your coworkers live so far away? Granted, I don't know everybody's address, but I'm pretty certain not a single one of my cotoilers lives 30 miles out. Even half of that, 15 miles, is a PITA trip to make twice each day. People in Oklahoma are strange creatures.

It sounds like an extreme example for an entire office but long commutes like that aren't uncommon for the west.

OKC does sound horrifically big, though. ABQ is kind of bad but OKC's square mileage for its population just sounds like a terrible waste of space.

I just had to do something I didn't want to do - take a 90 minute nap.  I was starting to feel a little droopy about 1430, so I decided to lay down until 1605.  In doing so, I had to miss the grand entrance of Kenya and Israel.  Never fear, though, I'm awake in plenty of time to watch my cousins in Cameroon ring in the new year, then I'll be at the party for everybody from London to Oklahoma City and be back home for Albuquerque and Las Vegas.

We're starting to fill in the empty gaps quite nicely.  A spread out city is good, though, as that means more elbow room.  We're not invading each other's space too often unless we're mingling in Bricktown or Downtown or at a Thunder game.

I mean, Memphis is hardly New York City. And we're about the same population as OKC, so the comparison in pretty apt. Mostly, middle class people here live in one story detached houses on quarter acre lots. You have the green space out back for the dog to run around and there are trees everywhere. What's the utility in being any less dense that that?

Yeah, I live in a city that has 17,000 people/sq mi. Let me tell you, there are no issues with personal space. Outside of a couple of main arteries, the city is essentially empty. Unless we are talking about some place like Cairo or Tokyo, I don't get how elbow room is an actual issue.

Keep in mind that people in Oklahoma are two to three times the size of your normal American.

I'm more than willing to put Memphis people toe to toe belly to belly against the Oklahomans. And our moderate density isn't just for the anchor city. Our primary suburbs, Bartlett, Germantown, and Collierville have virtually identical population densities as well. I get that some people may desire  a denser, more walkable city. I don't why anybody would want things to be further away. Just to be less convenient?

Or when you're given the option of taking time off, politely decline and say you're happy and eager to work.

It's all about convincing the people there they need you.

Thank you, Lief!  I made it home just fine about 0015.  I'll probably stay up until like 0200 or so.

Seriously. It's like Jeff thinks his boss is giving them the day off/letting them go early so often out of the goodness of his heart, when really it's just one day less of payroll expenses and he can wring more productivity out of his labor hours by making them all work extra hard when they are in the office to catch up on what they got behind on while being out.

Bushie has always been sort of a Rainman-esque savant when it comes to stumbling upon jobs that always seems to let their employees volunteer to work for less than 40 hours a week.

It's been a pretty good day to start 2015.  I went to bed at 0130 and woke up at 0830.  I had breakfast, but couldn't get going today, so I took a nap until 1400.  I woke up from the nap refreshed and I have been sitting here watching football and keeping track of the weather.  We've got a small ice storm on the way for tomorrow afternoon through Saturday morning.  Oklahoma City is expecting a tenth to a quarter of an inch of freezing rain which is solid ice.  The roads will be a big mess, although we should still be in good shape as far as power is concerned.

Bushie.txt : I couldn't get going... so I didn't.

When did this "nap" commence? Any earlier than noon, then it wasn't a nap, you just went back to bed.
