Predict the name of the next pope

My prediction: Benedict XVI

Papal names are somewhat interesting to look into.  Each pope may have an obvious reason (or a not-so-obvious reason) for choosing a certain name by which he'll be known throughout his papacy.

True.  All prophecies and a certain amount of scripture have to be stretched to fit society and culture.

Don't read to much into it.  I just think it's fun to bet on what the next name will be :-)

Statistically, parts of such a large prophecy will come true simply because of the Laws of averages and ones desire to see the patterns described.

I’m hoping but certainly not counting on a Papa Francesco or perhaps a Papa Pius Francesco.  Leo XIV or Benedict XVI would be nice as well.  Given the current collection of Cardinals, I strongly doubt the next one will call himself John XXIV.

Ah, cool list - thanks for posting.  There were some really interesting names going way back like Telesphorus, Severinus, and Hilarius.  But, those were all one-time names and are unlikely picks for the new pope

Then we could have Pope Malcolm X, so the church could modern-up its image a bit and play to the X-crowd.  Like in that movie "Dogma"

Yo, Papa-G Malcolm X in tha Hizzouse!  (funky background music)  Maybe change the white robes to deep purple.  With a little propeller on the skullcap like Elroy Jetson.  Oh, and a big Clock hanging around the neck instead of a crucifix.
