That's my random question for the day.

Assuming a silver-plated copper coin, that isn’t legal tender, about 7 cents.

In that case, why don't we make all our coins like that so they look better?

An unanswerable question.

If it contains valuable metal it would have some value as a commodity.

If its old or rare it might have collector value.

If the government puts their stamp on it and calls it currency it could be made of fried bird crap and it would be worth whatever the government says.

I'm saying if you melted it down, and sold the metals (silver and some cheap crap in the middle).

By the way, what if it was a gold-plated copper coin?

You want to carry something that big in your pocket?

They would obviously be the same size.

See, I was picturing coins four times the size of the quarter.

Just using a large example so that if I got an answer well below 25 cents, I'd know it'd work.

Have you seen the Eisenhower dollar?  They are huge, not really good for carrying around in your pocket.

Keep them the same size, and just silver-ize them so they look better.

Then they would be confused for a quarter.  That was the problem with the SBA dollar.

Four times the radius or four times the area?

Acctually, it would be about 2 dollars, since a solid silver dollar contains about $9 worth of silver.  Trust me, I collect coins.

It's coated with silver, basically silver plate.
