Say Pataki didnt run and Rudy did is it possible for Rudy to be nominated by both the Republican and Democratic Parties. Like He was nominated by the liberal party in his mayoral runs and his approvals in NYC are sky high.

Like I could see if he ran for Governor, Democrats really don't run anyone serious against Rudy and Guiliani potentially could win the Democratic Nomination on Write Ins as in that cause Mario Cuomo could endorse him too(Given Rudy endorsed Mario in 1994) along with his skyhigh approvals in Dem NYC and you could have a repeat of 1946 CA.

I don't have much of an idea on this.

I suppose the general election would have been Giuliani (D/R) vs. Golisano (I) in that scenario, which, while an obvious landslide for Rudy, would have been quite a thing.

Absolutely not.

There are way too many ambitious politicians in NY for something like this to happen.

Would any serious dem want to run in an election that would be considered a lost cause though. Say all the serious candidates not run and say Mario Cuomo decides due to that in that case he would repay back Rudy for Rudy's endorsement back in 1994 then couldn't Rudy win the nomination against some joke tier dem due to write ins.

Democrats would have run a sacrificial lamb of some kind, probably a New York City/Long Island Congressperson (maybe Gary Ackerman or Anthony Weiner).

Republicans also probably run someone in the primary against Giuliani, given he was pro-choice, pro same-sex marriage, and he was in the middle of his messy divorce from Donna Hanover.

Maybe someone like Vito Fossella or Peter King runs in the primary and beats Giuliani, or forces him from the race.

Maybe Golisano actually decides to run in the Republican Primary as well.

Giuliani wouldn't have gotten the nomination of either party, as an actual Democrat still would have beaten him in their primary, and a Republican running to the right of him would have made things closer, if not won outright in their primary.

Someone will want to raise their profile statewide even if it means losing. There is no way NY Dems would nominate Rudy Giuliani for anything.
