When did you first notice the fact that the American media has a right-wing bias?

I think for me it was in 1988 when I was 15, when the media set out to destroy Dukakis.

Well old man, you're pushing the daisies.  Take your meds... you're sounding senile.  Except for Fox which is balanced, the media has a very clear left-wing bias.  Just notice how they bashed Bush and praised Kerry in the last election.

That explains why the media was fixated on the Swift Boat Scumbags Against Truth even though I never actually saw the ad even here in Iowa.

Let me guess, when the media decided that Al Gore said he invented the internet, they were showing their left-wing bias?

"I took the initiative in creating the internet."

                                                    -Al Gore

Fox does have a conservative bias.  Then commentary shows are commentary shows, take them for what they are.  But the news shows, particularly Special Report (My favorite news show) has a clear right wing bias.

CNN is left leaning.  The alphabets are left leaning.  MSNBC is now pretty center, with Matthews on the left and Scarborough on the right.

You left out the first 8 words.  Gore's quote looks pretty innocous in context.

In response to a question about how he different from Bradley....

"“During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country’s economic growth, environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.” - Al Gore

"Gore is the person who, in the Congress, most systematically worked to make sure that we got to an Internet." - Newt Gingrich

"Gore really was instrumental in developing the Internet. He was the one congressman who understood the whole thing in the ’70s." - David Maraniss

So you have some people saying Al Gore invented the internet.  That doesn't mean he didn't say he invented the internet, it means you think he's justified in saying it.

I updated it. It's obvious from the context that he was talking specifically about political policies and legislation that he came up with, and that that's what initiative meant in that context.

No, Al Gore did not say he invented the Internet. Look at the 100000 Bush quotes where he specifically says crazy sh**t. f**ck that double standard.

I didn't say he invented the internet, he said "I took the initiative in creating the internet."  He didn't get so specific with the other policies.  He said he had initiative on initiatives.  But he specifically said he took the initiative in "creating" the internet.

"If my opponent had been at the moon launch, it would have been a risky rocket scheme.

If he had been there when Edison was testing the light bulb, it would have been a risky anti-candle scheme.

And if he had been there when the Internet was invented..." (laughter from the Convention Hall)

I hear there's rumors on the Internets.
That proves it, George W. Bush invented the Internets.

Seriously, though, it's really not hard to come up with crazy quotes from Bush, some of which can be used to make him look very dishonest. Oh wait, he is, why go through all that trouble?

The media has a right wing bias? You mean right wing = liberal and left wing = conservative? And I've been wrong all these years.

In 2003 I started watching Fox and could quickly tell the difference between leaning conservative and leaning liberal.

"The media has a liberal bias"
http://www.aim.org/
http://www.mrc.org/

"The media has a conservative bias"
http://www.fair.org/
http://www.mediamatters.org/

Just thought of a better one:
The media has a pro-corporate bias. The always reported on Bush and Kerry and completely ignore the Libertarian, Constitution, and Green Parties (unless it involves Ralph Nader).

The media has a bias towards whomever gets them the better story.  Typically they will favor the incumbant, unless of course there's a nice juicy scandal they can feed on.

I first noticed during this election; that's the only one I remember watching the news.  How many f-ing times did you hear, "Kerry is the most liberal senator" and "Edwards is the 2nd most liberal senator" during the election (or Kerry stating the fact that Cheney's daughter was a lesbian)?  But how many times did you hear about Bush cutting the VA or lowering the standards for protecting the environment?
Seriously.  Think about it.

The media has a bias towards whomever gets them the better story.
Better = most sensational and most easily explained demogogery

Populists make for the best sources of "news"--and populists exist in both parties.  However, before we get too carried away with the idea that both parties are equally supported by media bias, it is worth noting that the large majority of people in the media are self-described liberal Democrats.  That does not mean that they are intentionally biased, but they are, on average, less likely to carefully scrutinize one of those "better" stories if it comes from a Democratic source.

The flip-side of this is that we must also note that most media companies and news organizations are owned by self-described conservatives.

Since that's a massive distortion of what he did, I'd say it speaks well of them that they didn't talk about it.

When did you first notice the fact that the American media has a right-wing bias?
Early in the evening of Election Night 2004, when the media called Kentucky for Bush.

I wish you were joking, because that would be so much funnier if you were. Smiley

CNN and Fox are both right-wing.  MSNBC is also, but not quite to the degree of the other two.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me CBS is right-wing.
