There's a good chance Braley would have lost the seat even in a neutral year. What a bad candidate.

This is one of those cases where one gaffe really changed the tenor of the whole race. I don't think this was considered a toss up before Braley's remarks about Iowa farmers. It just proves that Tea Partiers aren't the only ones capable of this.

It was so bad that Stabenow had to fly in and show him how to work a room, per WaPo. He didn't listen to advice from Reid (who warned him after Chickennado) and Schumer, disparaged by senior Dems as arrogant.
