The recent Houston Chronicle poll on Tom DeLay was conducted by John Zogby.  The article about the poll concluded with the following: "Zogby is a Democrat, but he describes his polling firm as "militantly independent" with clients among both major political parties"

In discussions about the presidential polling it was suggested that Zogby was incompetent, but not that he was biased.  Has there been indications of his bias in the past?

BTW, how much would a poll like this one cost (503 voters)?

Zogby's poll lately have been a mess, but I'm not sure what that has anything to do with him being a Democrat.  Do you expect pollsters not to vote?

How much the poll costs depends on the firm, the client, the sampling method, and how long the questionnaire is, and varies greatly..  But assuming live callers, I would guess somewhere around $10-20K.

I thought we all knew that Zogby was a Democrat.  I sort of took that as being a given.

I'm more concerned about whether he understands how to accurately poll this District (which to me is a much greater and more questionable question):

Since when was Zogby not a Democrat?  Remember when TN was a Kerry solid?

I've heard Zogby admit as much on the Laura Ingrahm show, his polls don't show bias to me as they seemed to screw up for either side depending on what state was being polled.

His polls show bias. Bias toward being incorrect.

His one donation is to a Timothy Dennis Riley, a Democratic Texas house representative. He has also said he is a Democrat.

I thought it odd for the Chronicle to bring it out in the article about the poll that they had commissioned, as if to address criticism about Zogby elsewhere.

I don't think there is anyone in the House by that name.  There was a Tim Riley who was DeLay's opponent in 2002.  That would be curious if it were the same person.

Of course Zogby is a Democrat.

He ran for Mayor of his home town as a Democrat.

His brother was an appointee of Clinton in the State Department (who wanted to 'drive Dixie down.')

The problem with Zogby's polls is that since 2000 they have been tilted Democrat since he assumes an unusually high percentage of Democrats in his weighting.
