Seriously, this ain't a left-wing era. It's not classically liberal, of course. (We're the dominant political and philosophical movement, but culturally damn near invisible). It's not socialist either, outside of Brandeis (and, I'm told, Berkeley). It's just an era when any damn idiot thing that comes out of someone's mouth and then is called liberal, goes. So Arafat and Guevara are liberators, there's a right to death, we deserved 9/11, free trade kills peasants and rare plants, and creaky old institutions like Social Security, Medicare and the IRS are an untouchable third rail. And all of this is called LIBERAL? Pretty sick.
