How the non-mighty have fallen.

It’s worth polling the special general, which will occur in just three weeks, but I’m pretty sure that Massachusetts will soon have a Senator Coakley.

Coakley will not get only 36% of the vote. These Globe polls have had bizarre swings.

MassINC, which has been far more reliable and less volatile than the Globe poll, only has Baker like 1. Looks like an outlier.

I think this is an outlier, but Coakley should never be allowed to run for state-wide office, ever again.

I hate to say I told you so, but this is what happens when you go with a proven loser.

I didn't really follow the primaries for this state.  Was there no one else that the Democrats could have put up to run?

Can Martha Coakley be killed with fire?

Wow, way to over-react guys.

It's not all her fault. Charlie Baker is a good chap who ran a fine campaign, fine tuned all the things wrong with his last campaign. It wasn't perfect, but give him some credit for learning from his mistakes.

Coakley is one sad candidate. This is Massachusetts of all places. I know they elect Republican governors there, but still.

They did elect Elizabeth Warren to the Senate. Coakley is just a terrible candidate.

Plus I'm not convinced Grossman or Berwick would be doing any better. MA just has no problem with electing Republican governors due to the large amount of unaffiliated voters. The fact that Democrats have been stabbing Coakley in the back since day 1 due to hurt feelings about her losing an election nearly 5 years ago certainly hasn't helped matters either.

The election hasn't even happened yet, Baker isn't Governor, so let's stop acting like Coakley has already lost.

The only poll that matters is the one on Election Day! Which Martha will also lose.

Of course, then she can run around accusing bloody sock Schilling of being a Yankees fan.

Adios Coakley!

Though, the globe does need to push undecideds a lot more. Seriously!

"Only" 8% undecideds in this one, although the three independents (who probably shouldn't be included unless volunteered, IMO) get 7%.

Her chances are better than your boys Brownback and Corbett.

Phil hasn't been bullish on Corbett. It's just Roberts and Brownback that he's confident about the victory of. As it is, both may win, but it's far from certain, and they are slight underdogs.

lol
Orman is headed for a smashing victory over non-resident Roberts.
I know some Republicans saw this headline and were hoping that Brownback made a comeback. Good fake out.
The Gardner stans are really out today. Udall will win, I'm sticking firm to my prediction.....

Basically any Democrat other than Coakley would have won.

Not necessarily; the race has developed in the way it has more because Baker is running a strong campaign than because Coakley running a weak one. In pre-primary polls Grossman and Berwick were losing to Baker (by high double digits in the latter case), while Coakley was still winning by double digits.

Grossman was probably still the better candidate despite the polls, because he is the better politician, he's fairly centrist, and (most importantly) he was the choice of the state Democratic Party establishment, which has been giving Coakley almost zero GOTV support compared to its usual efforts. Polls have been showing Baker nearly tying Coakley in Boston and the inner suburbs, and winning by a huge margin in Central MA (Worcester) for that reason.
