It's too early to say with any kind of remote certainty that Kilgore will finish this race in first place, but 7 months out of the general election, he is the favored candidate.

If Kaine goes down decisively, does this hurt Warner's national chances?

Dean did pretty well before Iowa despite that the Vermont governorship flipped parties when he declined to run for re-election in 2002.

Yeah but Dean had a lightning-rod issue to catapault him from nothingness, whereas Warner's main attraction is his supposed popularity in Virginia. If his lieutenant gov running on a Warner-like platform loses decisively, that doesn't look good.

It may hurt a little, but I doubt it will derail his campaign.

Reagan was replaced by a Democrat when he chose not to run for a third term as governor.

Warner's problem if he wants to run for president is the same problem every other Virginian has: senator isn't a good way to launch your campaign, and neither is one short term as governor.

We need to repeal that stupid requirement so we can catch up to Ohio and New York. Make it one six year term.

True, it is possible Kilgore's victory would not hurt Warner, especially if his strength is based on something personal like Reagan's charisma was.

I'd gladly trade you 2 additional  years of Warner in exchange for fewer years of Taft.

I'm not totally sure why Kilgore is so much more popular than Earley was, but such is the case. And Kaine is basically a nobody who won on Warner's coattails... I don't think the 2005 result impacts Warner too much except a slight nudge one way or the other.

Potts won't even hold 6% I don't think... if someone really wants a "moderate," and is gullible enough to buy Potts' feces, they'll probably still be smart enough to vote for Kaine.

Huh? I meant in presidents. Ohio and New York now have more presidents than us.
