July 10, 2005
Battle Creek, Michigan

"My friends, I'm here today because I love Michigan.  And I want our children and grandchildren to have the same opportunity in this state that I had.  But unfortunately, over the past four years, Jennifer Granholm and her reckless tax-and-spend policies have chased jobs out of Michigan faster than ever before.  Our families are being forced to move to other states to find the good, high-paying jobs that Michigan used to give them.  We have the highest unemployment and the lowest job growth in America.  That is not what Michigan needs or deserves.  Michigan deserves to be first place, not last.  I believe that our state's best days are still ahead.  And with that, I hereby announce my candidacy for Governor of the great State of Michigan."
-Congressman Joe Schwarz (R-7th District)

Schwarz Announced Bid for Governor, Joins DeVos in GOP Field
-Detroit News headline, July 11, 2005

Off the Record, July 13, 2005

"This past week, Congressman and former State Senator Joe Schwarz tossed his hat into the ring and announced that he is seeking the Republican nomination for Governor in 2006.  Schwarz, if you'll recall, lost the GOP nomination for Governor four years ago to Lieutenant Governor Dick Posthumus.   Does he have any chance at it this time around?" -Tim Skubick

"Well, it'll be interesting to see if he does.  He's going to have a tough primary fight against Dick DeVos, and many of his views aren't exactly helpful in that effort.  He's pro-choice and hold liberal positions on a number of other social issues, and I can guarantee that conservative organizations will put millions of dollars into the primary to attack him on that.  But, if he does make it out, there's no question he would be a much stronger candidate to take on Governor Granholm in a general election, and with the current economic numbers, she's not exactly a shoo-in for re-election.  And if Schwarz can make the case that he represents the change that Michigan needs, then he has an excellent shot at winning." -Bill Ballenger

I read this earlier but was too lazy to comment. Nevertheless, I'm intrigued to see where this goes.

I haven't worked much on my MacKenzie timeline for months, but I'd like to get that back up and running, too.

Yeah, for me it's a possibility that I may be on permanent hiatus from timeline writing given how busy I plan on being for the rest of my life, but we'll see.
