We know that the current electoral map is much an inverse of what it used to be.
Here are the elections for which Republicans of the distant past won the presidency while Arkansas carried for a host of losing Democrats.
1. 1860 [ Secession with 1864 ] 3. 1876 4. 1880 5. 1888 6. 1892 7. 1896 8. 1900 9. 1904 10. 1908 11. 1920 12. 1924 13. 1928 14. 1952 [- 1968 ]
With 2008 a realigning presidential election, for the Democrats to be the dominant party in winning the presidency, it wouldn't surprise me if Arkansas is reverting to form of backing a lot of losers from the opposition [Republican] party.
I'd rather the Democrats, with not winning a 40-state landslide presidential election (since the 1990s, average number of states carried has been 29), go after Georgia (to name another Old Confederacy state).
