No.  I am, and I don't think you're one of us.

I went back only three posts of yours before I got a sense that, "yes" you are, but I think I am too, so what? In a sense, elitism can be a good thing. Having a life, a mind, and a self-confidence that makes you feel good about your accomplishments- what's wrong with that?

The post:
a lot of americans also think 'american idol' is entertaining.

a lot of americans were fond of the 'ernest' movies.

a lot of americans think iraq was behind 9/11.

why do you put faith in what the commoners believe or think?

I'll play devil's advocate and say yes Tongue.

Advocatus Diabolus.  Devil's advocate.  that's what they used to call the council against the candidates for beatification back in the old days.  Christopher Hitchins played the devil's advocate, for example, in the canonization trial of Mother Theresa.

Let's examine all the forms of elitism:

racial elitism is the most superficial and, nowadays, the least dangerous since "racist" is one of the worst things you can call someone in today's politically correct society.  you haven't shown any public evidence of that.

academic elitism is an old one, and still exists.  I remember back when I was at BU the BC crowed used to call it BJew based on its largely jewish student body.  But, for some strange reason, the Haav'd and MIT folks never looked down on BU, at least not openly at cocktail parties the way BC folks did.  Goddamned catholics!  Wink  Ah, well, Harvard didn't even admit Jews or Catholics in the first 300 years of its existence.  Now most of the whites at Harvard are eithe Catholic or Jew.  You know what they say:  There goes the neighborhood.

Closely related to academic elitism is religious elitism.  Muslims are often accused of this.  As are Jews, Christians, and generally all monotheists.  You have not shown any public evidence of either academic or religious elitism.

Then we come to partisan elitism.  I'm always going on about the Democrats being guilty of this.  And so are you, quite frankly.  But we have to admit that the Republicans are just as bad.  I don't think you are a partisan elitist, as you are just as quick to point out the faults of your own party.

There are many other forms.  Class- or wealth-elitists seem to be all the rage with opebo.  I don't know whether you're rich or poor or somewhere in between, but you certainly don't come accross as someone who equates a large bankroll with superiority.  In fact, you seem about as much a friend of the common man as a Republican can possibly be.

Ethnic, geopolitical, national, and aristocracy-based elitisms exist as well.  Do you have problems with the Irish?  The polish catholics?  The polish Jews?  The French?  The (gasp) italians!  Not likely.  Those kinds of prejudices are fashionable in places like Boston, but I suspect that even if you were from Boston you wouldn't be that kind of elitist.

now, you're a whining drunk.  like me.  hardly an elitist.

My guess is that you're just too lazy to hit the Shift key.

Statements of fact do not require a response.

I don't think you are. Honestly, I think this term has been beaten to death in recent years to the point of being beyond recognition. For example, I was recently criticized as an elitist for finding the political expression in D.H. Lawrence's novels inartful. I might point out that the more elitist tendency would be having heard of D.H. Lawrence, but go figure.
