If you could steal one living politician from the other party who would you steal?

Base your decision not on how close you are to their ideology but rather on their skill/ability as a politician (you get to redefine their ideology to match yours).

Not Jeffords, you guys can keep him Smiley
Clark too.

Living, huh?  That means no JFK.

Bill Clinton sounds good.  Do we get term limits reset?

Or maybe a minority or a woman.  I'd say Obama, but it's too early to tell if he really has the skills he's often credited with.  Feinstein?  She has more skills than Hillary, but that's not saying much.  Does legacy count as "ability"?  If so, then Hillary.

I'd steal nym90 and semi-retired Al.  wouldn't trade Rove for them, though.  He's worth 1.5 bill clintons.

The most powerful ones: John Paul Stevens, Sandra Day O'Connor, Anthony Kennedy, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stephen Breyer.

not sure all those on your list are from the "other party"  Here's a list of the current justices and their presidential patron.  clearly you can see that the most "liberal" are often republicans.

stevens (a Ford appointee)
o'connor (a Reagan appointee)
souter (a Bush appointee)
ginsburg (a Clinton appointee)
breyer (a Clinton appointee)
kennedy (a Reagan appointee)
rehnquist (a Nixon appointee)
scalia (a Reagan appointee)
thomas (a Bush appointee)

They were appointed by Republicans, but they are clearly "from the other party" in their acts as politicians.

Rehnquist is good. Scalia and Thomas are excellent. The rest are just lawmakers of the worst variety.

John Ford and Dazzleman. J.J. would come in handy, as well.

Among posters, Beet (the_factor).
Among politicians, Ken Salazar.

Yes, good one.  Very popular here and his being a Hispanic would be helpful.  Man, if he had switched parties a few years ago, Campbell could have basically annointed him as his successor and everyone would be happy.

Plus, if Ken switched parties then maybe he could convert his brother too.

Salazar's a social and economic moderate.  So was Campbell, who switched from Democrat to Republican.  I could see Salazar doing the same.

Why do you like Hoyer so much?  Im a Hoyer fan, too.  Ive heard alot of people say he is boring and a little slow, but I think he comes off as an old, experienced, wise man, who knows what the hell he is talking about.

The Democratic Party already has plenty of ruthless and evil people.  There has to be a better reason than that.

Interesting answers so far.  I'll throw in mine now ... Dick Cheney.  He's like an evil genius.  Blatantly dastardly and yet no one seems to care.

Pretty much the same reasons you gave. Just an all around good rep.  His voice is the kind that you can listen to, and it doesn't interest you or bore you, it just sort of flows in one hear and out of the other. My C++ teacher has a voice like that.
