If the election for Governor were today, would you vote for Republican John Kasich or Democrat Ed FitzGerald?

50% John Kasich
44% Ed FitzGerald

PPP poll of 801 likely Ohio voters, August 8-9

http://de.scribd.com/doc/236596552/PPP-Poll-Ohio-Governor

...

Adjusted for PPP's previous OH-bias in favour of Fitzgerald this probably means Kasich leads by 10-15 ... Wink

Toss-up, FitzGerald has had a bad week but that's just because people in Ohio don't know he's a Demigod yet.

It's not so much PPP's bias as it is that this poll was done for the FitzGerald campaign so they probably kept on doing polls until they found one they liked.

I think everyone realises now, that Fitzgerald will have the same chance as Mandel or Lee Fischer.

OC's acknowledgement and Adam's Silence should tell you just how badly Ed FitzGerald's goose is cooked.

That's a bit of an unfair comparison. Mandel lost by 6 points; Fisher lost by 18 (3 times as much). Fitzgerald right now is somewhere between those two figures, true, but they're pretty widely separated from each other.

Kasich wins by about 10 points unless something drastic changes.

Yeah, but both of them had no chance at all.

Realistically, in a swing state like Ohio you're only going to control the governorship like half the time. I'm fine punting this year. Frankly, it doesn't matter who controls the governorship now. 2018 will be a lot more important (cuz of redistricting) and strategically speaking, it will be easier to pick up the governorship in an open seat after 8 years of GOP rule.

This. Especially cause Snyder and Walker are much easier targets and (in my opinion) much more objectionable Governors than Kasich.
