The old ABC news song (link) is obviously a classic, but it lacks the 'oomph' of the NBC one. Not metal enough.

And the CBS theme is fine (link) but too positive, not ominous enough. Special reports are rarely about something good and uplifting happening.

Yeah. They want to distance themselves from MSNBC and it's politics (NBCNews.com is now their website for network shows), so that's the reason. I don't get why they didn't make MSNBC get something different instead.
