A moderate Republican- yes.  An Ann Coulter- no.

LOL.  I don't think I'd date an Ann Coulter either, but she is pretty funny to listen to.  She definitely mixes political debate with entertainment.

I would, if she was hot and not too uppity.

Wimp.

I would be open to dating anyone, but if her political or religious views meant she wouldn't put out, and very well, then forget it.

Bullsh**t.  This isn't just directed at you, but everyone here that said something to the order of I'm open to dating anyone.  You are NOT.  When it comes to equal opportunity dating, I'm as close as it gets with a few exceptions.

what am I, a moron?  I'm going to kick the bitch out of bed for not being a raging cenrist?  I don't care if she's a socialist, a nazi, a communist, a fascist, a green party supporter, or even (gasp) a democrat, as long as she's hot.  Or, if I'm drunk enough, she doesn't even have to be hot.  Word.

So?  I have a higher standard.  I don't let just anyone get at me.  You're gonna work to get there.

no, you see yourself more godlike even than I do.  and that's impressive.  you, my friend, have a 3.5 billion-year-old urge to  whatever moves.  your female counterpart has a 3.5 billion-year-old urge to protect.  you like to think you're above that, and maybe you are.  but I'd be surprised if that were actually the case.  my guess is that if you're a straight male, and healthy, and a hot chick wants to give you a freebie, and you're not married or otherwise predisposed to decline, then you'll not let something as superficial as party registration stand in the way.  you don't have to tell me any truth, if you don't care to, but at least tell yourself the truth.

Did you read the question?  "date" != "sex"  If I'm desperate, perhaps.  Probably.  Actually, it wouldn't matter.  But date someone, and then continue to perhaps marry her?  Unlikely.

If you're a democrat, you find out that he/she is a huge Bush supporter and a Republican.

Yea, that's my story. I didn't know until about the 3rd month that my girlfriend was a Bush supporter. She's not a hardcore Republican, but mainly she comes from a Republican family and has fairly staunch anti-choice views (she is also against the death penalty).

We don't really talk politics anyway, but if we're still together I'll try to persuade her to come over to the good side in 2008.

ah, then all bets are off.

hmmm.  there's probably some analogous argument I could make, but I can't think of it.  still, whatever, I still think the urge to "date" isn't tempered by highbrow notions.  All men do everything they do in order to get laid.  Art.  Foreign language.  Law degree.  Learn to play the saxophone.  whatever.  oh, we tell ourselves it's in order to better "communicate" with others.  and, of course, that's true.  But we have a ticking drive for immortality.  And, unless we're gods, we only achieve that by procreation.

I'll have to get back to you with a less heterocentric argument.  at the moment, I'm taken rather aback at your succinct post.

oh, I just saw your next post.  well, yes it occurred to me that I was using the word "date" like a whore would use it.  granted.  but I'm shallow like that.  Why make a pretense?  When I'm in a bar -- scratch that, I'm married and can honestly say I'm the old-fashioned type when it comes to marriage--but when I was into sleazy chicks and I'd be in a library, bar, public swimming beach, whatever, and I'd strike up a conversation with a single woman, I'm pretty sure, or at least it is my recollection that what I was thinking about was that sex.

Now, if you want to broaden the question to "Would you marry someone whose socioeconomic philosophies are different than yours?"  well, that's another matter entirely, isn't it?  Leaning NO here.  And for the same reason as above.  My instinct is pretty well honed.  After all, I'm a member of the self-ordained Most Highly Evolved Species on the Planet, right?  I think the sense of procreation, immortality, and preservation leads me to someone I can trust, really trust, with my precious offspring.  This certainly would not be a nazi, greenie, commie, or pinko.  Dems and Republicans, and, on a very good day, maybe even a Libertarian, but no whackos.

Yeah, I meant 'dating' as in having sex with for about an hour or so.  I dislike anything more involved than that.  And yes, she would have to be attractive.  Or possibly he.

yeah, I agree you should have broken this up in to two separate questions, one for "Would you do somebody who..."  and one for "would you marry somebody who..." just to avoid the confusion.  Clearly there are two different questions being answered here.

Yeah, I'm sure everyone out there is working hard for a night with good old Richius.

This poll, I think, was only meant to ask if liberals would date conservatives and vice versa.

My girlfriend cares not for politics as far as I know, doesn't bother me, wouldn't either if she was a Conservative or a Liberal Democrat.

your signature seriously needs changing.  one presumes that if you were registered in california you'd know how to spell defense.  I suggest either you correct defense, or change california to Australia or England.  Either way, the juxtaposition is far more disturbing that a kick in the teeth.  really creepy.

I have to have the California bit for the purpose of fantasy elections. Unfortunately I cannot be registered in England or the UK. I know how to spell defence and I spell it the way it is spelt in English. Tongue heehee
