Let's say you're single, and you start dating somebody who's company you really enjoy and everything is going extraordinairly well.  But then you find out that he/she has drastic different political views than you do.  If you're a democrat, you find out that he/she is a huge Bush supporter and a Republican.  If you're a Republican, you find out that he/she hates Bush and is a huge Michael Moore fan.   Would you stop dating the person?

I don't see why not.  I get along with Republicans on this board well enough.

I wouldn't discriminate who I date based on their political views.  But odds are if she was a Michael Moore loving, Bush hating, ultra super liberal, we wouldn't get along anyways.

Only a truly degenerate person would avoid others on political grounds. James Carville is married to a Republican consultant!

Yes. I don't care about their politics, I just care how good they look.

Sure, within reason. I don't know if I could date a communist for too long - too much arguing, unless of course she'd listen to reason and stop being a commie.

Within reason, yes.

It depends on whether the difference in political views represents a fundamental difference in values, or whether they are in peripheral areas.  It could be one or the other, depending upon circumstances.

Actually, I have a wonderful woman who scores -10/-10 (or very close) on the political compass. She quite a feminist.

that's mean I'd screw them. I wouldn't date them.

No I would never date a Republican. It's not really a problem though since I only hang out in areas that tend not to attract Republicans.

I wouldn't discriminate on the basis of politics per se, but if you disagree strongly with someone about politics, you are likely to have other major differences, as well. Your political views affect the way you behave in other respects, I've generally found. Of course this isn't always true, and I would give the person a fair chance, but the odds are against it working out.

I've never dated anyone who was a Republican, though my fiancee is an Independent swing voter who voted for Bush last time. She doesn't like him, but saw him as the lesser of the two evils.
