Just like he was supposed to get thrashed by the Peoples' Pat last year, right?

Still going to lose in a landslide.
It's still very early, and he could turn it around.  Plus, he has a Democrat controlled legislature who refuses to cooperate, and whom he can blame as "do nothing."

Political suicide. Obviously doesn't want to be re-elected in 2018.

Rauner ran on his wife's record as a lifelong Democrat. Combined with his promise to pass term limits made it seem like a reformer, not a GOPer. But, term limits has failed along with his budgets

The GOP ticket, except for Munger is doomed in IL anyways in 2016, 2018 is a long way off.

Madigan or whoever is running will just obliterate Rauner on his record. Can't run on "Shaking up Springfield" when all he as done is brought it to a standstill. Also of course failing to deliver on the term limits...

Oddly enough I think you have both Obama and Sanders to thank.

Well I love Obama of course, but I'm definitely also thankful for the message Bernie has delivered even if I don't want him to be the president. The Democratic Party, even in Illinois, is better today for having Bernie done so well so far.

Both are FFs and would be great candidates to take on Rauner.

Quinn is mentioned in the article - he really needs to stay out of this.

http://myinforms.com/en-us/a/35732045-whos-to-blame-for-budget-impasse-fresh-poll-shows-its-madigan/

According to this poll, voters are blaming Madigan for the gridlock more than Rauner.  If anything, this suggests that Rauner may actually be favored for reelection in 2018--he can exploit discontent with Madigan over the budget gridlock and attack Democrats as obstructionists.  He can call them the "party of no" or the "do-nothing legislature," and based on the track record of that strategy, it will probably work.

In 2006, when Jennifer Granholm ran for reelection as governor here in Michigan, she also faced low job approval because of a struggling economy.  But voters blamed Bush more than her for Michigan's economic problems, and she knew it.  As a result, she was able to capitalize on the strong anti-Bush sentiment of that year and win reelection by a decisive margin.  I suspect Rauner will win reelection the same way.

Major caveat - that 59% is outside of Chicago

Hopefully Emanuel runs a scorched earth primary campaign against Lisa Madigan. He would be an awful candidate, as he could not win easily statewide, and he's a pretty sore loser.

Rauner's shot at reelection is to focus on Madigan's 30+ year rape of illinois

If Sheila Simon could manage, I'm sure he'll be fine.
