Republican Rudolph Giuliani's top political aide said Monday it is not possible for the former New York City mayor to run for governor of New York or challenge U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's re-election bid next year.

But, Anthony Carbonetti cautioned: "Rudy is someone who never says never."

"Right now, with all the commitments he has here in maintaining the success of Giuliani Partners and now growing a law firm, Bracewell & Giuliani, I just see the commitment as too great to undertake any sort of run within the next year," Carbonetti told The Associated Press. "It's not possible." Independent polls have also shown Giuliani as the leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

Guiliani was always our only chance at the seat (although arguably Pataki could have a chance if Hillary started eating babies on live TV).

Ah well.  She ain't getting my vote, in any event.

Has a more reliable news source than the NY Post confirmed this yet?

Hillary's approval is TWICE the approval of Pataki WTICE (69% to 34%) even if Hillary does eat babies on live TV Pataki is still toast (thats about how much ole Georgie is loved now)

I'm still not convinced.  Just as Republicans were still convinced Hillary was going to run in '04 until right before the primaries, I'm still wary of a Rudy candidacy.  I don't want him to run because then I might have to vote for him Smiley
