You can say it's early, but Dems almost always poll between 40-45% in MI until the summer of the election year. For Hillary to have these numbers is definitely a good sign for 2016.

Rand Paul's 18% among blacks polled, coupled with 17% not sure, against someone with virtually 100% name recognition isn't that bad.

Rand Paul also does better than all other R nominees when it comes to independents. It may be his moderate views on drugs and foreign policy. One thing is for certain; it will be a challenge to cast him as some right wing loon.

See: Mitt Romney.

It's very likely that the Republican primary electorate will do that before we ever get to him.

Justin Amash, about as pure a libertarian as there is in the House of Representatives, is in a political fight with a well-heeled Republican who is more blatantly an authoritarian right-winger in the primaries.  Amash seems to be running for his political life in Michigan (greater Grand Rapids, a swing area in Michigan).

Libertarians get almost no crossover support from liberals, especially minorities and union members who are much of the Michigan Democratic Party.

Hillary Clinton has the Obama coalition locked up in Michigan. The state usually looks close  before Labor Day, after the which the unions and minorities start organizing.

Paul and Cruz used to be lumped together as "Tea Party Republicans" but in the last year or so Paul has done a good job of differentiating himself from Cruz, while at the same time not associating himself with the Bush/Romney/Christie GOP establishment wing.

Paul has always done well in polls, at least compared to his GOP counterparts. In spite of the press, the Cruz-Paul "Tea Party Republican" thing never really stuck. Paul has significant differences from Cruz, Cruz is right-wing at all costs, Paul has differences that would actually attract young people and people who don't usually vote Republican.

The 3% of Michigan State fans who disapprove of Mark Dantonio's job are insane.

To be honest, so are the 40% of U of M fans who approve of Brady Hoke's job.
