Martinez - FF, in my Top 10.
Cuomo - HP, although higher up in my book than Quinn, Patrick or O'Malley to name three.

Why do you think that Andrew Cuomo is one of the worst governors in America? I thought that you would like him because he is economically moderate.

Andrew Cuomo is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the Democratic Party today. My main concern with my party is that instead of deciding to push kitchen table issues, like the minimum wage or how to protect the people from bankers, the Democrats have pushed from the party of the Kennedys and the Great Society and class justice to the party of social justice. While I agree that social justice is important in itself and for the most part is a noble cause to fight for, some members have decided to completely abandon their economic principles, and even downright sell the state of the party out for their own gain.

The latest issues du jour of the Democratic Party seem to be "MUH MARRIAGE" and "MUH GUN CONTROL". I’m pro-gay marriage myself, as is 95% of Atlas, but this is close to irrelevant because the courts are taking up arms against it. There is only one state out of 50 with a fully Democratic government that does not have gay marriage, and even then it's the most socially conservative state in the Union and passing it would mean (almost surely) losing the majority in the House of Delegates. Why risk a marriage vote when the courts will rule for it in the very near future – and for a matter of fact, why fight for marriage if the legal tide is avalanching towards our favor?

Gun control is largely irrelevant as well - it will never be passed because our Democrats that make up the majority we have are in deep-red states (even then both anti-background check Democrats are in grave danger). Instead of spending our political capital on a minimum wage increase, something even the Deep South agrees on, we decided to go on a feel-good crusade about how we need to "protect our kids" and stop people from getting guns. The only relatively decent fight that I commend this new Party of Macklemore on fighting for is for abortion, and even then that will become a secondary issue as soon as Republicans stop whining about how rape pregnancies can't happen or that the baby should be a punishment for a rapist.

My point is this: while Cuomo is (quite literally) screaming about how we need a high-capacity ban and how we need to ban assault weapons, thousands of inner-city New Yorkers are shot on the street with regular old handguns, and while Joe Lieberman cries about the one in fifty shootings done with an AR-15, mostly in middle-class suburbia, thousands of Americans die because he whored himself out to the insurance companies and signed away their rights to healthcare. I am all for universal background checks. Some crazy f(inks)er with a gun started a shootout literally two miles away from my house, and I think that things like that are necessary to keep guns out of dangerous people’s hands. But Jesus Christ, if you’re going to talk about shootings, at least pretend to care about urban crime.

Now, what has Cuomo done for the left since becoming Governor? He has decided to let four members of his party sell themselves out to join the Republicans and bolster his own reputation, nominated a Blue Dog whose only upside is a carpetbag into a more friendly district and directly goes against one of the items on his second-term agenda (which appeased progressive support), and openly criticized one of his fellow Democrats for being too hard on the rich. Those poor souls – to think they would have to buy a beach house in Malibu instead of the Hamptons! But he wants to Keep Our Children Safe™, so he’s okay in my book! Let’s vote for him!

Instead of being the Party of Springsteen, we've become the Party of Macklemore, and Andrew Cuomo is the symbol of the transformation of left-wing America. He wants to protect children from crazy people who want to shoot up a school, but he won’t give New York City the funds to pay for lower-class kids who can’t afford to go to preschool to go because it'll hurt the poor bankers. This is the key problem with the modern-day Democratic Party, and why I think it’s somewhat out of touch with the working class- it’s more interested in the race for the soccer-mom vote than protecting the middle class from big business, and the more centrist members like him are outright kowtowing to Wall Street in order to get elected.  Instead of having an actual liberal alternative to the pro-business policies of the Republican Party, New York Democrats are actually praising someone who is fine with Republicans controlling the Senate and is vaguely to the left of Susan Collins on economics because of his social stances. He has proven to be the closest thing, as far as pure personality goes, to a Democratic Ted Cruz for selling out his own party's success to bolster his own credentials, and the fact that the only person that seems to be stopping his thirst for power is Hillary Clinton frightens me.

This is why I, as a leftist, pray Hillary Clinton runs. America doesn’t deserve to choose between two Republicans in 2016.

HP for Martinez as well.

The governor election in 2010 has to have been a Sophie's Choice for everyone in New York - they had to choose between someone who's more concerned with promoting his own legacy, and someone who literally wanted to put poor people in concentration camps.

Wait a second. You type out an effortpost about how the Democratic Party has sold itself out to rich people, bankers, and feel-good social progressives, and then you cite all that as a reason for supporting.....Hillary Clinton? WTF?

Yes. I'm more in-tuned to Sanders, and if my support guaranteed any candidate to win I'd back him, but I wouldn't mind a Clinton run. Anything that prevents Cuomo's rise should be supported by the left, and Clinton at least won't drag the party down to boost her own image.

Hillary Clinton has squashy triangulating tendencies, especially on economics. Andrew Cuomo is actually right-wing in many ways, especially on economics. These are two tragic, but distinguishable, post-having-a-viable-left-in-this-country states.

LOL, what? OK, Hillary isn't as bad as Cuomo, but Cuomo would be so easy to take down in a primary.
