Oops.  Sorry.  I read it wrong.  Opebo is far more intolerant than the religious right.  I guess I voted wrong too.  Maybe I should call a press conference and talk about how I was victimized by the unfair wording of the question. Smiley

interesting map.  what are the G, the Bell, and the Book.  that's not clear from the legend.  Also, neither of you run the country.  Your map identifies, at best, who is running a party, not a country.  And even that's a stretch.

Actually the map is just something I grabbed off of google image search.  Certainly the GOP is run by the Religious Right, and in case you haven't noticed, the country is run lock stock and barrel by the GOP.  The Religious Right runs America.  I on the other hand have absolutely no influence over anything.

well, I'm not sure intolerance is really the defining characteristic of either you or the "religious right" thought you certainly share something.  And it's not Power either, I agree.  Influence, maybe, but not Power.  I think there's some confusion here between "influence" and "authority" and "power" and they're not the same thing.  None of you are particularly tolerant, but you are probably a tad less so.  They want you to live, and will tell you as much, probably someone is praying for your soul right now.  You, on the other hand, joke about feeding them to lions.  That's not exactly intolerance, but it is tacky.

That map shows 17 states where the "religious" dominate, and 13 others where they have influence.  That isn't exactly a mandate.

That might be true of the Republican Party up there.  Certainly they aren't the same folks as the South, but they still care about their religion.

It is only a joke because I have no power.

But they do.  Perhaps not absolute power, but they are by far the most influential group in the US.

I wouldn't say the religious right dominates the Minnesota GOP, although they have a hell of a lot more influence than 10 years ago, but for the most part it's just a few loonies like Bachmann and Lindner making a big fuss and getting the most attention. Of course they will never take over the state if the religious right does dominate, because on a whole the state is not religious right-friendly, even the socially conservative rural areas do not like Jerry Falwell and his ilk telling them how to live their lives, which is one reason many rural areas have stayed Dem.

Opebo isn't being intolerant.

Saying opebo is intolerant is like saying, being intolerant of slavery is wrong.

Yes he is being intolerant as are you. I'd say wishing to feed Christians to lions is an intolerant stance.

(by the way, didnt  that end 140 years ago in america?)

and im sure he lies awake at night worrying about the slave trade in sudan.  im sure it is the republicans...err...the 'owners' fault anyway.

depends on how you define "america"  Brazil abolished slavery in 1888, I think it was the last in the Americas to do that.  but don't think there isn't a thriving slave trade in the US and other OECD countries.  It's something our newsmedia ignores, as it isn't sexy and doesn't sell add space.  Why talk about modern slavery when you can enlighten your viewers about Michael Jackson, Terri Schiavo, and the Ten Commandment contretemps.

What're you talking about?  'sex slavery'?  Working at Wal-Mart?  Illegal immigrants?

No, people being kidnapped, then bought and sold as property in an underground black market. And yes, unfortunately such a thing exists.

This map remainds me of Sen. McCarthy's maps on communist activity.  Makes sense, this is bascially a witch hunt.

Except there were never many Communists in the USA - by contrast it is stuffed to the gills with religious, particularly down South.
