i am curious to see the ideological make-up of various Democrats on this forum.  Granted, these are arbitrary labels but at least it could provide some measure of the ideological makeup of Democrats on this forum, and perhaps help explain why some support moderate Democratic presidential candidates like Evan Bayh or Mark Warner, as opposed to liberals like myself who favor Russell Feingold.  i realize there will be overlap, but do try to determine with which wing you most identify with.

and by economically conservative,  i am referring to those Democrats who favor free trade, and are open to private accounts in Social Security, and favor further tax cuts for businesses as well as individuals coupled with cuts in government programs -aka, those who style themselves as 'fiscal conservatives'.

on the other hand, economic liberals believe the government can be used for benevolent purposes like assisting the less fortunate.  while it doesn't mean the government should step in and actually run businesses, this generally means an expansive government with programs to help the poor, the elderly, the very young, the sick, and other vulnerable members of our society, and to mitigate the sometimes harsh effects of the free market economy through regulations to protect the consumers of the goods produced by the economy.  they favor a progressive income tax, and support allowing workers to form and enter into unions.

the socially liberal and conservative labels should be self-evident.

I am economically liberal, but pretty moderate on social issues. So I am just going to say Progressive leaning Populist.

Very close to being libertarian, but not quite.  I'm also not socially moderate enough to be a centrist.  I'm not really sure what I am.

I don't know where I go. I am economically moderate-to-conservative, yet socially liberal. I am not a Libertarian, that's for sure....

A mix of Populist and Cenrist.  I voted Populist, but I have a few liberal leanings socially and some libertarian ideas when it comes to economics.

Same with me, but I voted Centrist

Liberal Progressive

For me social issues are far more important than economic ones. I don't know how to characterize my economic views, since they take a back seat to civil rights, etc.

I love Howard Dean but I realize he's not a real liberal. I voted for him in the primaries (March 2004) even though he had dropped out, since I didn't like Kerry or Edwards, (I knew even then that a MA Democrat had no chance of winning). Wesley Clark would have been okay.

For a Massachusetts Democrat that had 'no chance of winning,' Kerry sure came close. PV was 51-48, let's remember.

Blue Dog. I'm not fanatically pro-choice(I'm against pba), and don't mind civil-unions as a compromise(although I definately prefer marriage). I am pretty right wing on economics.
