Not only did it vote for Bill Clinton, but it had a Democratic swing of over 4% even as every state bordering it swung towards Bob Dole. Did the Clinton campaign just zero in on Arizona, or was there some other factor at work here that didn't affect California/Nevada/Utah/Colorado/New Mexico?

Read Clinton's book My Life.  He zoned in on Arizona, Florida and Virginia in 1996.  Hispanic growth there helped him and Dole inspired few people.

Dole's performance among Hispanics was almost as bad as Romney's.

And maybe a lot of Democratic-voting migrants from elsewhere moving to Phoenix in the early '90s?

Az, is opened to pragmatic politicians. Dee hull fashions herself like sandoval and martinez. Clinton wasnt a scary dem.
