Pittsburgh? Probably not, although the downtown seems decent enough.

Nope -  too cold and gloomy - and forget about ever learning the local language.

It might be cool but I'd probably be rather bored quickly.

Definitely.

Rounding up my little tour of the Nordic capitals:

The town with the castle and the street with little old houses was (of course) Copenhagen. The street is located within walking distance of the (in)famous "free town" Christinia, but is on the south side of Torvegade, the main thoroughfare on idyllic Christianshavn, so less noise and no risk of police razzias or street violence. The castle with all the people on the lawn is actually a military academy, so you would have to join the Danish army to live there.

The town with the rocks, that Johan thought was Torshavn is actually Nuuk in Greenland, less homophobic than Torshavn, but probably still not for Johan.

Nathan didn't mind living along the Oslo Fiord a short boat ride away from town in summer and a longer commute through the suburbs in winter.

The "cool town" with the colourfull houses was Reykjavik and the town on the green pastures with a red building in the front is the actual Torshavn.

Grumps didn't mind living in the old town of Stockholm, but Torie thought Helsinki was too cold and gloomy and  - correctly - assumed he would never learn the language.

The town with the big woodden houses where Hash thought he would get bored quickly is Mariehamn, capital of the Åland Islands.

Seems like an urban area, quite dense and should be quite livable and enjoyable.

But, it looks like the Fujiyama. I don't think than my lifestyle, attitude and work ethics are compatible with Japan's ones.

It's actually Iwaki-san, but yes, it's still in Japan. Everything I've posted so far has been. I'm doing the rounds of cities and towns where I've stayed in the northern part of the country in the same way that politicus did the rounds of Nordic capitals.

Also, politicus, I wasn't aware Torshavn was homophobic.

NYPest: No. This isn't funny any more.

Looks a bit too urban for me (and I doubt my ability to learn the language).

Assuming that we are still in Scandinavia, and putting aside the weather issues, not in those cat houses, no. Those puppies have the most feminized architecture this particular pair of masculine eyes has ever been laid upon. I'd probably need to cut my pair off to get into it all. And is landscape design and  maintenance a foreign concept over there?

We are far away from Scandinavia - and the rest of Europe. Its Tomsk in Siberia.

The style and use of space in Torie's is a little too masculine for me, in the same way that he thought the style and use of space in politicus's was too feminine.

Probably not, but hard to tell from the picture. Reminds me a bit about the Azores, which would be good. Is it still in Japan?

Also, politicus, I wasn't aware Torshavn was homophobic.

The majority isn't, but the Faroe Islands has a legacy of free church fundamentalism and charismatic sects, that has led to a higher level of homophobia than in the rest of the Nordic region. Still, its not exactly Eastern Europe-levels of intolerance.
