I wouldn't mind Vermont, although it's not my first choice. My family comes from Alabama, where they are proud to not be Mississippi ("thank God for Mississippi" is basically their state motto), so I don't have a really high perception of Mississippi.

Vermont is nice, and I'd probably enjoy living there, but to retire, rural Mississippi  would be good.

Mississipi it seems like it would be an interesting place, and I'm sure there are some nice areas.

Well, I would go with Mississippi. It is warm and I could have a nice house built for about 10% of the cost in Vermont.

Vermont, of course, thanks to a certain former governor Smiley

Mississippi. It's warm and has low taxes.

This sums up my feelings, although I'd add that the people are generally open and nice.

I believe Mississippi pays the lowest wages in the nation.  Granted, cost of living is lower, but I'd still rather make more unless I was certain I'd be there for the rest of my life.

I'm actually planning to move to Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine sometime in the future. So, Vermont obviously.

Vermont's a great place, though is a bit too cold for me.

I'd still prefer it easily over Mississippi, though.

Mississippi, nothing beats Southern hospitality and i couldnt stand to pay three times as much for a smaller house up north.

Vermont, probably, though where I'd really like living is in one of the Pacific states.  Microsoft and Nintendo of America are both based in Washington, and Blizzard and Westwood Studios are both based in California, all of which would be places at which I'd love to work.

You'd have to worry about that more if you lived in Indiana.

I wouldn't mind either, but I put Vermont.

I'd be more focused on the weather than the politics.  And as I said in another thread, I prefer the cold to really hot days.

Vermont. Better scenery, better climate. Overall, more rural. All good things for me.
