Pataki sets his sights on Washington

"Sources told our sister station, NY1, that in the next few weeks Governor Pataki will announce he's not seeking a fourth term, and instead will set his sights on Washington.

The sources said Pataki considers himself a longshot, but thinks he could be the GOP nominee for Vice President in 2008."

That really is pathetic. Sorry Governor Pataki but you can't sit around, hoping for a number 2 spot.

Thats what I was thinking.  You know your political career has come to an end when you consider yourself a longshot for the VP slot.

A VP spot should always be for a Cheney-type person, with no political ambitions of his own.

lol. The GOP will never give the VP spot to a loser like you Pataki. What's your selling point going to be, the governor who decided not to run again because he knew he'd lose by at least 20 points? Your political career is done.

If neither Pataki or Guilani run for anything, the US Senate and governor  races in NY will be very boring. Maybe Spitzer and Hillary can coattail in a Democratic state Senate.

I guess he thinks he has a better chanc e of getting the # 2 slot sitting around after not running, than sitting around after getting shallacked by 20+ points running for Govenor again or discombulated spat out & crapped on by losing by 30+ points going for the Senate

How about just going into retirement or maybe run for President, win the NH primary, get tons of attention, lose everywhere else and then be thought of as a possible VP candidate? It's better than sitting around hoping for VP.

Maybe to stay away from the infighting?  Pataki isn't as liberal as Rudy is, but his liberal viewpoints on social issues would be fodder in the primaries.  He would probably be ripped more than anyone else in the primaries because of it (unless Rudy runs because Rudy is even more socially liberal than Pataki).  Someone who gets ripped a ton in the primaries probably won't get picked for VP.  Their were some jabs thrown back in forth between Kerry & Edwards, but their is a big difference between jabs here & there & an all out bash fest which would result if Pataki or Rudy fo r that matter were in the GOP prmaries, because they would be quite a bit more socially liberal than the others

There goes my least favorite governor. He won't be missed. Ordinarily, I'd say this is Rudy's golden opportunity,  but the 2004 Democratic primary has changed all the rules. At this point I hope, and expect, him to jump straight into the big campaign, and the governor's mansion be damned.

P.S.- have it on good authority that my own governor, Mitt Romney, will be taking the above advice and avoiding reelection. That makes it Healey vs. Reilly- an interesting combination.

my guess is that pataki wont be just 'sitting around' waiting for the vp nomination, but rather he will be trying to get a job in the bush administration somehow.
