My daughter will become whatever she wants to become. i will only be there to guide her, and assist her in her life choices. If she is a lesbian, I will still be behind her 100%. If she is a republican, I would support her no less. Unless she is like Philip; then I would disown her. I voted other party BTW. I actually want her to be from the other party (strange I know). I love debate and I want her to be a free thinker. If she grows up with the same ideals/beliefs as me she will not think for herself and will only hear one side of things (unless my wife can provide the other).

I don't think this is a fair question. Political preference can change everyday. I can wake up and say "I want to be a republican." Sexual preference is much more natural, I can't wake up one day and say "I want to be homosexual", and then a week later say, "No, I want to be heterosexual". You pretty much are what you are.

So what you are basically saying is that you would rather have your daughter be someone she is not than become a Republican.  You have issues.

what the hell? How is being a lesbian being something she is not?

Well I don't think there's anything wrong with being a lesbian, and I do think there's something wrong with being a Republican.

You're twisted.

I simply do not think that there is anything wrong at all with homosexuality. what's twisted about that?

If my daughter ends up being a lesbian, that'll be ok with me. I would prefer that she not be one, of course, given how much more difficult life would be for her in many ways as a result.

So if I had to choose, I'd prefer she be a Republican rather than a lesbian, but given that it isn't my choice or anyone else's to make, while party affiliation is of course a choice that she can make, I would prefer to hear her say that she was a lesbian than to hear her say that she was a Republican.

I was with you until the last half of your last sentence.  Your statement seems pretty contradictory.  I was ready to congratulate you for being one of the few Democrats with a sensible position on this issue, but now I'm not so sure....Smiley

Nation, you didn't let me down in believing that you are in the minority as a sensible Democrat.  I find the results of this poll appalling.

I tried my best to explain how it wasn't contradictory. I guess I didn't do a good enough job. Smiley

I personally have nothing wrong with someone being a lesbian, because I feel they can't choose whether to be one, or not to be one. However, I certainly wouldn't want my daughter to actually be a lesbian, due to the fact that her life would be much more difficult, and gay people have to go through a lot of bigotry and other issues, not to even mention the inability to have a family. So it's certainly not something that I would ever wish on anybody.

While I would be disappointed to hear my daughter became a Republican, I'd respect her decision. I hope I didn't give the wrong impression. So that's what I meant, I'd be more upset with her for a decision that she made that I didn't agree with than for something that she had no control over. However, being a lesbian would overall be much worse for her quality of life, so if I personally could choose, I would rather she be a Republican.

That makes a lot more sense to me now.

What's so appalling about it? I have no problems with homosexuality. Period.
