If he had played 2B for most of his career, he'd have an argument, but he didn't play it that long or that well, so for most of his career he's been a mediocre fielding corner outfielder who doesn't get on-base much but did hit bunch of HRs.

Compare him to someone like Bobby Abreu who has no chance of the HoF but outperformed alfonso in every way except HRs.

Not that this is the only relevant factor, but his Baseballreference Grey Ink score is 70, and his Black Ink score is 10. These are well below the benchmarks of 144 and 27 for the typical Hall of Famer.

His career WAR is 28.6, compared to the typical 65.1 of a Hall of Fame leftfielder. There are around 30 non-HOF retired LF ahead of him in WAR.

I doubt Abreu will get much consideration.  He really needed a throwback year like Gwynn or Winfield had at the end of their careers.

No, nor are the following;

Vernon Wells; Career .270 hitters don't make HOF material, and hitting for "only" 270 home runs doesn't help. The Angels were fools to sign him to the contract they did.

Aubrey Huff; So he won the World Series twice... big deal so did many other guys... The fact is he was a .272 career hitter with just over 270 home runs.

Vic Wertz; Seventeen Years, under 270 Home Runs and a Batting Average at about .280? Not Hall of Fame worthy to me.

Bobby Bonilla; Unfortunately all I remember about Bonilla is how much the Mets still owe him...

George Steinbrenner; Okay, so the Hall of Fame keeps Pete Rose out for something he might have done (Which of course was sort of illegal) but also lets in George Steinbrenner, despite his actual conviction in a court of law for illegal campaign contributions to none other than Richard Nixon. If the Hall of Fame had a clause regarding morals and voting, how could it include Steinbrenner and exclude Rose? The answer is probably favoritism towards the New York Yankees

Alfonso Soriano has a better chance at the hall of fame then Martin O’Malley has at the presidency so your prognostications may be improving slightly.

i never predicted omalley would be president.  i hope he runs, though.  the democrats could use at least one progressive in the field.
