Do you think NASA's budget should be increased? If so, by how much?
I wish Starfleet, from Star Trek, existed.

Private enterprise is moving faster on space exploration at this point. I think reforming the space program is smarter than just cutting it though.

I'm very interested in Astronomy and would love to explore space more, but I would only agree to do this if other things are cut.

Once we have a realistic yet inspiring vision for what NASA should be doing.

So in other words, no? Tongue

There are things NASA can and should be doing.  Sending astronauts on meaningless trips to the Imperial Space Station is not one of them.

No, and I for one am glad that something like Starfleet will probably not exist any time soon.

Absolutely. NASA is responsible for huge leaps in technological innovation and it is necessary that we learn about the universe, and if we don't it would have an extremely negative impact to our society, and we really can't afford that.

lean yes....but agree with Ernest that it should just be for science and not for expensive field trips.  Let the rich dudes pay for and die advancing that technology.

Yes. Neil deGrasse Tyson made a good case for it on Bill Maher's show.

Triple it (where it was when we understood the concept of innovation).

Private enterprise is moving faster on space exploration at this point.

Of course, how much of this is due to budget cuts and the fact that private enterprise knows what to do because NASA did it before them?

Well, I would cut U.S. military expenditures in half (which still leaves a military budget as large as China's, Russia's, and the United Kingdom's combined) and re-distribute the remaining money as follows:

20% social welfare
20% foreign aid
20% debt reduction
15% education
15% infrastructure
5% wildlife conservation
5% space exploration

Which means that NASA's budget would be effectively doubled and be put back to the levels at the beginning of the Apollo program (adjusted for inflation).

No, why? NASA should probably be abolished entirely.

Give it 1/4th of the current military budget, plus what it already gets. We need to begin developing the technology for offworld settlement ASAP, especially if the most dire predictions about climate change follow through.

Abolish the military outright and triple NASA funds.

Yes, and we need more agencies like NASA to overcome challenges in transportation, energy, agriculture, housing, etc.
