Just some minutes ago, Adolfo Suarez Illana, the son of Adolfo Suárez, the 1st democratic President of Spain, announced that his father is on the verge of death for neurological problems.

Adolfo Suárez González, 81, was the first elected President of Spain since the II Republican. A man who came from the Francosim, the King Juan Carlos chose him to lead the Spanish Transition. He was the leader of "Unión del Centro democrático" until the party disbanded. In 1982 he lost to Felipe González (PSOE) and then created a parrty called "Centro democrático y social". Truly sad news. In the summer of 2008, king Juan Carlos went to Suarez's home to give him some honour and make a visit. The first Alzheimer symptoms had begun ten years before and by then Adolfo Suarez neither remembered to have been PM nor recognized the king, albeit his son said he was grateful for the fondness the king showed to him. Adolfo Suárez Illana, the son, took this photo to make it public before the encounter:

"It is a photo of two persons who have lived together through many things and have come at the end of way", said then Suárez Illana. I wonder if the symbolism may go a bit further. The death of Suárez, besides a bad news, might be seen as the end of an era.

RIP.

It's really sad he died not being able to remember his accomplishments.
