I fondly recall heading home from high school in my girlfriend's AMC Gremlin.  Sorta like this one, but I don't remember the paint being as glossy:

My mom actually had a purple '76 Gremlin from around 1980 or 1981 up until June 22, 1985. It was actually a pretty reliable car, though it ate front end parts and needed to have the clutch repaired a few times. After the Gremlin, my mom got a blue 1980 Buick Regal that turned out to be a real piece of junk pretty quickly.

Edit: I just found out when my mom got the '80 Buick Regal, so I added the date into the post

As far as hatchbacks go, I wouldn't mind having one of these...

Ah, yes.  Looks like a hatchback, costs like a luxury sedan.  Worst of all worlds.  If I worked in the private sector, I'd hope that you come into my shop.

Well, there's probably no accounting for tastes.  I wouldn't get a car that looks like that unless it was deeply discounted--and even then only if it's meant for one of my wife's parents who wants to move in with us in the United States after the other spouse dies and has learned that there's precious little public transit in the United States--but most of the car magazines give that one at least a decent rating, in terms of performance, comfort, and safety.

I'd probably get a lexus in that price range, or if I had my heart set on a BMW Z3, I'd get a James Bond one--well, the gay version of James Bond who played James Bond after the first two James Bonds got too old, you know what I mean--and I'd opt for the ragtop.  Actually, as a ragtop, it doesn't look half bad.  Especially with the gay version of James Bond driving it.  The pregnant rollerskate you're posting just doesn't quite do it for me, though.

A Jeep........best vehicle on Earth.

I grew up in an era when only car mechanics had that sentiment because of the benefit to their finances.
