I guess having teachers be armed isn't quite the foolproof solution some thought it might be.

I think the sensible solution would be to hire an armed security guard for every stall.

Everyone knows I'm not a gun nut, but this is like making snarky comments about knives if someone accidentally cut themselves carrying them to some cooking class.

A guy who could have been riding the train had a car accident today. Time for legislation.

If all teachers in my school were armed starting next Monday, I'm fairly sure, given how my colleagues get along with one another, that I'd be the only one of twelve people in my department still alive by Friday.

And I'd only survive because because I'm out of the country this year.

More like, if there was a trend of commuters being involved in traffic accidents due to overuse of roads; legislation should consequently be introduced to provide public transport to ease pressure on roads; but keep on piling on stupid analogies if it makes you feel better.

Are US gun crime rates and US gun ownership rates rising?

It's more like making snarky comments about someone injuring themselves because they were carrying a butcher's knife to around a golf course (or some other situation in which a knife is totally unnecessary). The crux of the argument against random people carrying weapons with them everywhere is that they are more like to injure themselves or someone else in an accident than they are to provide protection.

"Totally unnecessary" seems a bit far.  What are situations, outside of shootouts or war where you would find a gun not totally unnecessary?

Misleading headline.

It's ridiculous that teachers are allowed to carry guns in schools in any state, though.
