http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/16/us/snake-salvation-pastor-bite

Am I alone in thinking the snake handlers are actually kind of cool even if they are insane and what they're doing is obviously quite dangerous? I'd like to attend one of their services once if I was ever in that area though I'd stand FAR AWAY from the snakes. I would actually consider it overall cool if they just used non-venomous snakes instead (like someone preaching at my church once did during his sermon.)

...But yeah kind of hard to not argue this guy brought it on himself.

It's not cool.  It's f-cking stupid.

The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive (prime example: The Jackass TV show and the movies.)

But I emphasize, it'd only be truly cool if they used non-venomous snakes.

Hard to believe, isn't it? Mind-boggling. So if we made up a top 50 list of the WORST things you can teach / do when on a religion aside from sacrificing, this story is pretty high up. Top 5.

Bottom line is, this guy sadly appears to have had a death wish and when he got on his religion he found the means to go straight over the edge while daring God to stop him.

Bad theology choices has have consequences.

Yep! Except that I think theology in this case was just an enabler. This guy had problems.
