I'll make myself Dictator in 2037, with Vice Dictator SomebodyWhoExists. Clarko can be our Secretary of Gayness, the only remaining cabinet position.
Aw thanks that's so sweet

Some poll read that 77% of the population would vote for a black president in the 70's. I'd say we were ready before 1988.

Pretty sure that the reaction to Obama means that a large portion of the country was definitely not ready for a black president.

Also, I don't think there will be a viable gay or lesbian candidate for President anytime soon, but a straight candidate raised by two moms/two dads might be viable.

40 to 50 years, when the current generation of adolescents have grown up, having been exposed to the repeal of DADT, Section 3 of DOMA struck down, same-sex marriage springing up everywhere and a culture where gay people are not seen as threatening. It also takes the right kind of candidate, one who is as non-threatening and inoffensive to the general populace as can be possible.

1. Are you a dirty homosexual?

2. Are gay meth addicts a stereotype? I've never met any.

1. I am a normal homosexual.

2. Really? It's kind of part of the dark underbelly of the gay community, so I guess most people don't see it until they're looking for it. But, yes.

1. Good, we won't need to sign you up for the Great Sexual Purge in 2037.

2. Huh. Learn something new every day.

I didn't have plans to buy anything in Kansas, so I'll flaunt what I've got. Maybe I'll put on some Lady Gaga.

The obvious choice (Baldwin) is a woman.

"Reaction to Obama?" You mean "Obama is going to save everything and bring a great change to the world, yes we can!"?

You silly fools. I'll be declaring martial law and making myself President-for-Life after I win in 2016.  After I die in the inevitable revolution, Canada annexes the United States into the Dominion of North America, we won't have a President but a Governor General and a Prime Minister.

I don't know anyone who actually did that, and the "Obama is the messiah" stuff was overblown by Fox into something bigger than it actually was.

Of course you didn't know anyone like that; you live in Utah. Ask forumites from liberal/swing states about it.

Buchanan, FTR, wasn't that secretive about his homosexuality.  He didn't make it known to everyone, but he would certainly be considered "open" by the modern definition of the word.

"Chronological ethnocentrism" is a remarkably mangling of the English language. Why not just call it teleology?

Not at all.  A viable LGBT candidate will have to be like Obama in the sense that he credibly engaged in a campaign that was not centered on civil rights.  I'm not aware of any potential LGBT candidates for who that is true right now. It's possible that there is an LGBT college student right now could mount a viable campaign for President in 2040.  But even that time table would be extremely quick.  It is extremely understandable why civil rights is a central theme of any LGBT politician active right now, but Presidential campaigns are not won on the issue of civil rights, so any candidate whose background emphasizes that as their most important quality is not viable regardless of their sexual orientation.  You'd need a LGBT candidate who has not made LGBT rights their central focus in politics in order for them to be viable.

I'm 26, likely I say another 26 years. My guess is it will be a lesbian, is it just me or are lesbians more accepted than gay men?

According to Gallup, Muslims and atheists are the least likely groups:

Younger people are obviously the most open-minded:

Yeah, thats this one:

I find it interesting that Muslim is above Atheist (and Atheist is always consistently last).
