Ground troops are basically the only option in Iraq. "MUH air strikes" don't do anything. Get serious.

Last I checked, you had time for more than a month to do just so, yet you chose to do nothing at all. Get serious.

Isn't it the Senate's authority to send for ground troops? Potus couldn't have done that unilaterally, obviously. Not that I agree with Potus at all on this issue, in fact I think his position on it is dangerous, but blaming him for not sending troops to fight ISIS is pretty ridiculous.

I can go on a bombing raid for 30 days without congressional authority. Following this, I need Senate authorization, which I have already said I will seek. Don't worry, we haven't done anything yet!

Yeah... so that would be Lumine's authority. Not Potus's.
Could you stop being disingenous?
Foreign policy actions are decided by the president and the Secretary of State.

Wrong.

It is decided by the President. If Lumine made that decision, then obviously Potus would carry out the specifics. But Lumine made no such decision.

That is true. No Secretary can conduct foreign policy on his own and if any attempted to, he should be fired ASAP.

Yet I find Potus attacking Superquire, who did more in two days than he in a whole month, a bit ironic. I also wonder if Potus had balls to tell Lumine to "get serious" when he appearently disagreed with him, or he's just so brave now, that he's out.

Fair enough, I wasn't defending Potus' actions or his obviously brutal foreign policy, just commenting on what I thought was silly criticism of the former secretary that made no sense in terms of what can be realistically done. That's all.

Week Update (18th of March to the 25th of March)

Secretary of State tours Europe in case for Atlasian progressive agenda and interests.
Superique met with main European leaders and also had deep discussions with French Economist Thomas Piketty.

It is not usual that a visit from the Secretary of State generates so much excitement from the media outlets of Europe. However, this seemed to be the case in Superique's most recent visit to Europe. After a short passage through Portugal on the 18th of March, where the Head of Atlasian diplomacy ensured to thank once more the Prime Minister for his assistance over the talks with Israeli and Palestinians, Superique initiated what would be one of the most energic visits of an Atlasian official to European soil.

France

Superique arrived in Paris on the 19th of March and immediately after was in a meeting with President François Hollande. The content of the meeting was revealed just a few hours after, when both statesmen delivered a joint press conference. "My first priority when I arrived in Europe was to express my deep condolences for the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. The Atlasian People feel the same pain as you do and we are at your side in this fight against international organizations that work in the case of Terror and Chaos,” told the Chief-Diplomat. The Head of State of the French Republic said that he was "very grateful with Superique" and that they "had very productive discussions towards more cooperation between the Security and Defense agencies from both nations". Both leaders also mentioned their own fears about the current developments in Nigeria and Iraq, "our enduring focus should be to remain united against Boko Haram and the Islamic State. Not only does this apply to European and Atlasia actions, but also to the rest of the world".

Superique took the opportunity to apologize for a not participating on the Je Suis Charlie movement and to show empathy to the French People.

One day later, the eyes of the press moved to the Paris School of Economics, where Mr. Superique met with the renowned economist Thomas Piketty, author of the groundbreaking book "Capital in the 21st Century". The Head of Atlasian Diplomacy highlighted that many of the propositions from Piketty's book are already starting to be used in Atlasia, such as the Financial Transaction Tax and Progressive Taxation. He also mentioned that one of the key interests from the Atlasian Government was to fight for the cause of a Global Wealth Tax in order to reduce the increasing forces of market that creates disrupting inequality and deeply disturbing social imbalances. "Our civilization cannot tolerate anymore the huge levels of accumulated wealth and disproportionate salaries in the hands of a few citizens. Strong actions should be initiated in the global level towards further taxation of the extremely wealthy and towards more governmental transparency" said emphatically the Secretary of State. After that, the statesman visited social programs from NGOs under Paris peripheries where he wad quoted briefly saying, "poverty is one of the greater diseases from this era and needs to be eradicated".

Germany

Germany is one of the most strategic players from all Europe and it has a significant importance on the political and economical stability of the Continent. Hence, it came with no surprise that Superique would also have meetings with German officials. The Chancellor, Angela Merkel, reached the Secretary of State on the 21st of March. However, although Atlasia and Germany shares a very long history of friendship and trust, there were rumors that the talks went roughly and that both the Chancellor and the leader of Atlasian diplomacy were not exactly happy about the discussions. Thomas Richardson, a specialist in Foreign Policy from Princeton University told the Tribune that: “Superique and Merkel have some strong disagreements about the current austerity policies that are being taken in the Eurozone. The Atlasian believes that Germany has an important role on the imbalances of the region; hence, it should help the other member-states. However, this is a very tough call to the Chancellor, who is deeply compromised with this very conservative approach to the European Crisis and who would face stiff opposition from her own electorate if she makes any action towards fiscal expansion.

Merkel and Superique bring an official declaration with points of consensus between both leaders.

Even so, the officials from both countries were not willing to send a message of disunity across the globe right in an official event. One day after the first initial meeting with German authorities, although Superique kept highlighting all across his visit to Germany his strong concerns over the current fiscal policy, he ended up announcing with Merkel a joint declaration calling for the reinitiating of talks to the creation of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. “We believe that one of the best ways to promote growth is to foster trade between two of the biggest economic powers across the globe, that is the EU and Atlasia,” told the German Minister of Finance, Wolfgang Schäuble, that was also present at the event were the declaration between both countries was announced.

The declaration also agreed about the necessity of greater financial transparency, of the fight against shadow banking and fiscal heavens and of a global movement towards a Financial Transaction Tax, saluting the already important initiatives from some countries of the Eurozone and Atlasia. “German and Atlasia are the main leaders in the fight for financial reform and they largely agree that the deregulation of the stock market was one of the main reasons for the crisis propelled in 2007-2008” said Nobel-prize winner, economist Paul Krugman when questioned by the International Tribune.

Greece

On the 23rd of March, Superique advanced on his trip and finally arrived at Athens, the city that was being thoroughly observed by the media outlets. The visit from the Head of the State Department was certainly a noisy one and generated some discomfort and animosity in, what the Greeks usually call, the European “Troika”. Before even having official discussions, the new Prime Minister, Mr. Aléxis Tsipras, from SYRIZA, invited the Secretary of State to make a tour in Athenian slums and poor neighborhoods and know more about what he called “the enduring humanitarian crisis that our nation is leaving”. Generating a lot of blitz from the press, the Atlasian leader enthusiastically accepted the invitation and had some interesting experiences, such as being strongly hugged by a fat lady that called for Atlasian financial help. The event ended up becoming a viral, especially at Greek social networks. The Head of the State Department also visited a very poor school in the peripheries of Athens, where he talked with adolescents from 14 to 17 years old.

Greek citizens follow Tsipras and Superique in a crowd neighborhood.

However, except for those symbolic moves from the SoS, no aggressive speeches were made by the Atlasian official, which preferred to foster a debate towards more moderate action. On the 24 th of March. Tsipras and Superique talked a lot in a private meeting; according to an insider from the SYRIZA government, the debt crisis, the emerging humanitarian collapse, the huge unemployment levels and the necessity for higher investments and more economic growth were the main topics of discussion between the two leaders. After the meeting, both men delivered a joint press conference where Superique showed some sympathy for the Greek cause.

“In the 21st Century, we should treat all nations of the world in the most fraternal way we can. Greece has made some mistakes, it has spent more than it should, but it is now paying a very dishonest price for this entire situation. Further austerity may not be the proper answer for this crisis. Greek businessmen need growth and families need relief. We Atlasians are willing to help the in the most proper way we can, we want further trade between the two sides and we need a strong and healthy Europe. However, it is a duty from all the European Union leaders to think of bold solutions to solve this crisis. This is more than just economic statistics, we are talking about human beings. I honestly hope that, with dialogue and peace, both the Greeks and the rest of Europe can go over a democratic process towards progress”, said emphatically the Head of the State Department.

Italian Prime Minister enthusiastically endorsed Superique words.

The speech was followed with some clarifications by assistants from the Secretary but the message to Europe was very clear that new solutions are needed for the current crisis. The Prime Minister of Italy, Mr. Matteo Renzi, publically endorsed the remarks from the Atlasian statesman and also called for “more investments and a serious discussion about the European debts”, as well as Mr. Hollande, who claimed that the ideas from Superique “were not new, but are stronger than ever”, although also calling for patience and carefulness to the greek authorities. The German government was not very happy with the speech, but was neither surprised with the whole occasion. Concrete actions were not actually taken but it seems that Superique’s visit has fostered new democratic debates in Europe about the economic and humanitarian crisis that is happening. Even if austerity keeps being the rule of law, it is now at least being extremely more questioned.

Communiqué on Iraq

First and foremost, I would like to send all my condolences to the families of those Atlasian heroes that were killed in the attack to our embassy. Unfortunately, Terrorism still is the main threat of the beginning of this century and we cannot allow that to continue. Atlasia has an important role in the world and that role is mainly to ensure that justice prevails over the Globe. As most of the Atlasian citizens, I must admit that I’m deeply disturbed by this tragedy in Iraq and by the deep humanitarian crisis that is affecting this regional ally. For too long we have been waiting to take more decisive actions but now it is time to realize that we need to do more.

Atlasian now starts a greater movement to guarantee peace in the Middle East. The first priority is to protect our citizens that are currently there and to make sure that they can safely evacuate the country if that is their wish. Hence, I decided to use the powers invested in my office to prevent further damages to our embassy personal and to make sure that our diplomatic team and the rest of our Atlasian citizens don’t face any more casualties and can safely leave Iraq. I reassure all of you that actions are being taken very quickly and that we are doing our best to stop more tragedies. By now, however, for security reasons, we cannot expose the content of our actions. Over the next few hours, we are going to release more news about the Iraqi situation. Thank you very much.

The Secretary of State leaves the Press Conference leading to many speculations of what is actually happening.

Embassy Personnel are rescued.
Plane lands in Nyman, where the Secretary of State welcomed the diplomatic team.

April 2nd, 2015.
Nyman, D.C.

The Department of State has delivered a rescue mission to save the embassy personnel and bring them back to Atlasia. A special team arranged by the Atlasian Army Special Operations Command was able to properly detect and extract the personnel that were immediately sent to Nyman. For security concerns and due to the increasing instability in Iraq, Superique has decided to temporarily close the embassy in Baghdad, although reinforcing that it will continue to be in contact with the Iraqi Government with all of the remaining diplomatic channels available. The President of Iraq has delivered a brief communiqué saying, “He was glad that the last Atlasians at the embassy were able to leave his country safely.”

The personnel have landed Atlasia early this morning and were received in private by Superique himself, which candidly apologized and welcomed the diplomats back home. The Head of the Atlasian Diplomacy told that press that he “was pleased that the remaining members of our diplomatic team were back to their motherland”. He also said that this was the first step of many more actions towards Iraq; “there is much more to do and we are willing to gradually bring back to Iraq”. That seems to be a tall order, but the Administration is toughly looking for solutions to this crisis.

Ambassador Dwight Lemuel Scheisskopf IV was buried in Nyman yesterday. A private event was hosted by the Scheisskopf family and the Secretary of State attended the event pledging all his condolences and support.

I'd just like to note that the Secretary hasn't posted anything in this thread for 25 days. The last time the Secretary posted something that wasn't a reaction to the GM was a month ago.

ONE MONTH.

I assume he'll be facing impeachment?

In Supersquire's defense, he's been actually doing some things via PM and he did posted the absence notice. Granted, it got extended without a warning, but how do we know what is going on in his life at the moment? It's not like he's been online all the time running for President instead Roll Eyes

Potus' calling for Supersuire's resignation due to "inactivity" is, given the former's own record of totally neglecting the job when he had it, an astonishing hypocrisy. Utterly shameless.

Superique meets with Jean-Claude Juncker
Calls for deeper integration and cooperation between the EU member-states

The Berlaymont Building, the European Commission Office.

May 2nd, 2015.
Brussels, Belgium
.

The Secretary of State of Atlasia, after passing through serious healthcare complications due to a heart attack, was back in action this Friday when he travelled to Brussels in order to have a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker. The two statesmen discussed about the troubling situation in East Europe and about actions that are going to be taken in light of the increased Russian disregard of the Potus-Putin Agreement of 2014.

The two men agreed that tougher action should be taken by the European Union and by Atlasia with regards to Russia and recognized that the two parties should create better tools of coordinated action on Defence and Foreign Policy.  “I’m not happy with President Vladimir Putin and I believe that not a single EU member-state is satisfied with the current developments near the Ukrainian borders,” told Mr. Juncker in an emphatic tone, something extremely uncommon between the 21st Century European leaders.

Mr. Superique called for deeper joint action inside the European Union and asked Governments across Europe to put differences aside and resist the recent “Eurosceptic wave that has been hitting hard the Continent. “I deeply understand that, in times of economic hardship, tensions between member-states may arise but Europe needs to realize that divided it will perish and that united it will stay strong” told the Head of the Atlasian Diplomacy in a joint statement with Juncker after their meeting.

The two men tried to send a harmonic message to the International Community and made sure to always reinforce the importance of deeper European integration.  In a public document signed by both leaders, it was recognized about the importance of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union and it was agreed that deeper EU action ought to be taken in East Europe after the recent actions from the Russian Federation. In an official communiqué, Mr. Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Italy, welcomed the joint statement between Juncker and Superique and urged a special European Council meeting to discuss the strengthening of the CFSP, a proposal that was met with a little bit of skepticism from Chancellor Angela Merkel, which is known by her firm pragmatism.

Despite the tough tone of his statements in Brussels, the Secretary of State ended his trip with optimism in a resolute press conference. When asked by a Brittish Tabloid about a supposed savagery of the Russian President, he told following: “I do believe that Mr. Putin is a rational man and that he will give up sooner or later of trying to promote instability in the region.  Chaos and disorder cannot be the interest of any sensible man. We won’t accept any aggression of the International Law and we won’t tolerate those recent Russian Actions, nonetheless I do honestly hope that Russian authorities give up of those dangerous and childish actions and that we can go back to the negotiation table as soon as possible”. Charm and Irony marked today’s visit of the Secretary of State, but he will need much more than that if he wants to bring stability back to the European Union.

Foreign Policy Updates

Middle East
Superique calls for Legislative Package against Terrorism Funding

2nd of May 2015.
Nyman, D.C.

Today, Secretary of State Superique called for a special legislative package that creates greater tools of investigation and combat against terrorism funding and recruiting. After recently getting a report from the Defense Department showing increasingly high levels of cash flowing from the Gulf States to very suspicious Islamic organizations across the globe, the Head of Atlasian Diplomacy has decided to be deeply committed with the matter and has told reporters that he is willing to work very closely with the Senate in order to find the most proper solution for Atlasian interests.

Concerned by the growing ascension of radical Islamic groups across the world, the members of the State Department are working on a series of proposals to enhance the fight against terrorist organizations. Many advisers have appointed boosting the funding of the Central Intelligence Agency as a key necessity. Furthermore, creating special mechanisms for investigation of bank accounts, establishing mechanisms of confiscation of financial assets from suspicious individuals and setting out further punishments to those who finance and recruit terrorists inside our borders have been also considered top priorities. Superique is willing to have negotiations with all Senators across the political spectrum and told that he is optimistic about what the Senate can offer to him.

Atlasian Embassy at Riyadh acts.
Ambassador calls for the nullification of Mark Hooper’s capital punishment sentence and asks the Saudi Arabia government to issue a pardon or at least an extradition for the Atlasian citizen

2nd of May, 2015.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Smithson VIII moves towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia to a special meeting with regards to Mark Hooper.

The Atlasian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (and former oil entrepreneur), Mr. George Albert Smithson VIII, has recently get in contact with Saudi authorities in order to see if a diplomatic solution was feasible to save Hooper’s life. The statesman argued that the death of Hooper could damage the beautiful relation that the Saudis and Atlasians have recently developed since the end of Lumine’s Administration. Furthermore, the diplomat told the authorities that, although Atlasia would respect the sovereign decision of Saudi Arabia, it deeply opposes capital punishment and asked for prudence and wisdom in order to take this difficult decision around Mark Hooper’s life. The Saudis have not yet given a formal answer to Mr. Smithson but prospects are not exactly good. Superique is rumored to be considering sending a letter to Riyadh, but the Department of State has not confirmed yet that claim.

Far East

“Unacceptable, Inexcusable and Dangerous”
Atlasian Embassador at the United Nations Security Council sends a message to North Korean tests in the Far East.

2nd of May, 2015.
New York City, NY.

The permanent representative of Atlasia at the UNSC has made an aggressive statement with regards to the recent missile tests made by North Korea in the Pacific Ocean. “Atlasia cannot tolerate this childish movement from North Korean authorities in the proximities of South Korea and Japan. Such unacceptable, inexcusable and dangerous misbehavior from Kim Jong-Un and his government will not be tolerated by the Atlasian authorities and must not be accepted by any Asian country that is concerned with the regional stability of the Far East. If the Democratic Popular Republic of Korea don’t cease and desist from all those ballistic tests and acts of intimidation, the Atlasian cannot government won’t have other option than to stop all of its current funding for humanitarian programs in the country”, told Samantha Powers in a very vocal speech against the socialist regime.

The speech has generated a lot of different reactions in the region. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was glad that finally Atlasia was addressing this so important matter for the Japanese people while the South Korean government was also pleased with the strong tone set out by the Atlasian diplomat. However, there were some countries that were not exactly happy with this movement from Ms. Powers, which is personally endorsed by Secretary of State Superique. The Popular Republic of China Ambassador to the United Nations told the press that “the Atlasian approach was not advisable and could create further imbalances in the Far East”, he was also quoted saying that it would be extremely unfair to punish North Korean citizens by a sovereign decision of their government. Pyongyang has already send an official communiqué to the UNSC saying that it doesn’t care by the sentiments of imperial Atlasia; there are rumors that a speech from Kim Jong-Un and an official military parade against Atlasia is also being scheduled for this week. Nonetheless, most Foreign Policy advisers think that it is simply impossible to predict what the DPRK is going to do after this Atlasian threat.

Other Updates:

Oman Government receives invitation from the Department of State. In a very short statement, Mr. Francis Urquhart, Superique’s official Press Secretary, invited the Omani diplomatic authorities to have talks with the Secretary of State with regards to the recent developments in the Middle East. When the Honorable Urquhart was asked if the purpose of the meetings were to have Oman as a special moderator between Atlasia and Iran, he just answered “You might very well think that, I could not possibly comment” while leaving the room.

Ban Ki Moon wants to have the Syrian Government from Bashar Al-Assad and other foreign leaders back into negotiations table as soon as possible. The United Nations Secretary General told reporters today that he has contacted Mr. Assad, Mr. Superique and other foreign leaders and invited them for the return of the Geneva Conference, that happened in the beginning of 2014. The Syrian authorities have not yet delivered an answer for that idea nor has the Atlasian government and other key global players, such as France, Russia, Germany, the UK and China. Nonetheless, there are many insiders on the Department of State saying that Superique has some enthusiasm for the UN offer.

Superique wants an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council
The Head of Atlasian Diplomacy calls for the International Community to give an appropriate answer to the recent Coup in Puerto Santos.
10th of May, 2015.
Nyman, D.C.

The Department of State of Atlasia has officially invited all the member-nations present at the Security Council to a special meeting to find an appropriate answer to the Coup in Puerto Santos. After the recent developments on the mid-sized nation of Puerto Santos, the State Department has initiated an International initiative against the newly-ascedended Junta. "Frankly, this is not an ideological fight. This Junta has removed a rightfully and democratically elected government and Atlasia cannot accept this. Cold War is over and pre-Atlasian History of supporting military governments in Latin America is over for a long time too." told Superique to reporters. The Atlasian Government has already authorized a military embargo in the country and it is willing to take further actions to prevent a dictatorship in Puerto Santos. Atlasia waits for further updates.

Rest in Peace President François Hollande

A few hours ago, I have received the news that President François Hollande has been shot in the roads of Paris and has died almost immediately after that. It is certainly a sad day for the French that have suffered since the beginning of this year due to the terrorist attacks on Charlie Hebdo HQ and that now have seen their President go in such an abrupt and terrible way. Hence, as the Atlasian highest diplomat and also as a private citizen, I would like to give my deepest condolences to Hollande’s family, to his friends and also to all the French citizens; the Atlasians feel your pain.

François was a decisive leader. He was not afraid of giving the appropriate answers to the crisis that have hit the French people and the global community. He offered leadership in Mali, he was a strong voice towards further European defense integration and he has given hope to the French when one of his nation’s beloved principles, Freedom of Speech, was horrifically disturbed by Terrorism. France, Europe and the world have lot a great men and a great leader.  May you rest now in peace, President Hollande.

Secretary of State, Superique.

Looking for a Deputy

As you may have already noticed, I have been quite unefficient over this last two months and I feel absolutely sorry for that. The State Department is too important for such a low level of inactivity but I steel hope that I can manage to rearrange my schedules in the University and be more productive during parts of June and July.

Nonetheless, I still greatly believe that I can share my responsibilities with other interested citizens and I'm also looking forward to train new and young public figures that are willing to take part in the Atlasian Foreign Policy. For this reason, I'm officially looking for a Deputy Secretary of State. Candidates will be chosen in a strict selection process and I hope that we can find new (or some old as well Tongue) faces. If you are interested to be Deputy Secretary of State. Just send me a Private Message.
