Ran as Mitt Romney on normal difficulty. I chose semi-moderate answers on issues like healthcare, trade, and immigration, while going as a hard-line social conservative. It worked (better than 90.4%).

Believe in America

Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan (R) - 305 Electoral Votes, 50.5% (65,436,204)
Barack Obama/Joe Biden (D) - 233 Electoral Votes, 48.6% (63,086,062)

The only way I was able to win as Romney is by giving all "moderate" answers or playing on easy mode.  They also make it impossible to win as George HW Bush unless you go aggressively negative (which is not the only reason he won IRL).

What I find impossible is winning as Ford in 76 on any difficulty other than easy. I've tried so many different answers, but nothing works.
It is real hard. I focus on PA, IL, and OH, and usually eke out a close win. I actually find it easier to win as Hughes.

Won a thin victory in normal as liberal!Kennedy in a Kennedy/Humphrey ticket. Tipping point (for an EC deadlock, not a Nixon win) was Missouri, decided by less than 1%

Dewey defeats Truman! Upset Dewey on Impossible. Went full liberal, campaigned extensively in New York and Illinois. Closest, and tipping-point, was New York where I eked out a 0.53% victory. Polls up to the very last stretch showed Dewey leading in New York and Illinois. I briefly had a lead in both, but I lost it in the last poll, where Dewey was leading by 1 in NY and by 0 in IL.

Normally, when I have Ford beat Carter, it's winning the West plus IL, OH, PA, and WI. Today, I focused on NY instead, and the map is... weird. Certainly an interesting one.

Ford/Baker: 276
Carter/Mondale: 262

In a huge upset, Bryan defeats McKinley by a rather big margin! Markets unstable! Laborers ecstatic!

Congressman William Jennings Bryan/Governor Horace Boies: 318 EV, 53.3%

Governor William McKinley/Senator Garrett Hobart: 129 EV, 45.8%

Humphrey trounces Nixon!

Vice-President Hubert Humphrey/Governor John Connally: 464 Electoral Votes; 50.4%
Governor George Wallace/General Curtis LeMay: 39 Electoral Votes; 11.8%
Vice-President Richard Nixon/Governor Spiro Agnew: 35 Electoral Votes; 37.7%

Ran as a pure liberal. Nixon finished third and it was beautiful.

1896 Presidential Election

Congressman William Jennings Bryan (D-NE)/Governor Claude Matthews (D-IN): 309 EVs; 7.3 million votes (52.2%)
Governor William McKinley (R-OH)/State Senate President Garret Hobart (R-NE): 138 EVs; 6.6 million votes (46.9%)

Closest States:

1. Minnesota (9 EVs): 0.05%
2. Iowa (13 EVs): 0.38%
3. Michigan (14 EVs): 0.46%
4. Maryland (8 EVs): 0.51%
5. Ohio (23 EVs): 1.41%
6. Illinois (24 EVs): 1.53%
7. West Virginia (6 EVs): 2.10%-Tipping Point State
8. North Dakota (3 EVs): 2.38%
9. Delaware (3 EVs): 2.84%

10. Wisconsin: 4.74%

The Great Commoner struck a victory against Governor McKinley in a race that was close until the very end. Despite a resounding victory at first sight, several small Midwest victories under 2% were pivotal to putting him in the White House.

Does anyone have a good strategy on how to win as Clay in 1844?  It's one of the few scenarios I cannot win

I have a terrible time playing as Clay. I find both 1844 scenarios hard, but I've been able to win as Polk a few times, whereas nothing I do gives the White House to good old Henry.

Beat Dewey on Impossible.

Pretty interesting map. I actually did worse than Truman did in real life basically everywhere, but my saving grace was scratching out wins in New York and Illinois.
