It's a complicated area. A lot of money is certainly wasted - and, fwiw, NGOs can be as bad at this as governments - and there are all kinds of other issues and problems, but good stuff happens as well.

The way Americans typically discuss foreign aid reveals their ignorance of its complexity.

I'm against giving the wealth of poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countries.

Hmm.  In a way your talking rot, but on the other hand it is certainly true that in places like Thailand it is the middle and upper middle (though not typically the elite) who benefit from US government and US NGO scholarships to study in the US.  Rare it is to see any lower-class person go abroad to study, even on Thai government scholarships (which are already unbelievably generous compared to anything Americans receive).

I think we should cut down our debt first, after we do that, absolutely we should help other countries.
