seems to be a common theme in many of the protestant / evangelical / neo-Calvinist churches and cultures, no?  much of the discussion centers around putting "God's word" first, Christ himself being somewhere second to or within that.

Could you elaborate a bit?

The way I'm understanding you, it appears to be an issue of tone. In my tradition at least, when we say "Word of God" we take it to mean the trinity, not just God the father.

There are quite a few churches who take the Holy Bible as something so infallible and inerrant as to practically worship it as if it were a part of the Godhead rather than a work written by Men about their experiences with and beliefs in God.  They are quite literally unable to treat the canonical Bible with the same degree of critical thinking they would exhibit to any other words set down on paper by ink (or on a computer screen by pixels these days).
