Yeah, what this has to do with US politics specifically I have no idea, except possibly the increasingly odd notion that the United States serves as a globally accepted synecdoche of some kind for capitalism.

Anyhoo. Loons aside there are very few capitalists who support unbridled capitalism. Any western nation with wealth can afford a decent welfare system that meets the needs of the vulnerable. What the state shouldn't do is deregulate business so much that it actually forces more people to look to the welfare state for support because it freezes the individual out of the market and out of the workplace.
