I can sympathize with the soul-crushing loss, but Boston fans need to stop whining about umpires "screwing" them.  This was as cut-and-dry (is it cut-and-dried?) obstruction as you can get.

If the dude hadn't lifted his legs back up and Craig trips (which he probably would have) it's no obstruction, but that little movement of bringing his legs back....whether intentional or not (I think it was), means he's obstructing.  You can't do that.  The Boston thirdbaseman should have known that and should have made it VERY clear that he was trying to avoid the runner (he didn't).

It sure is a sh**tty way to end a game though...and probably the series 'cause it's going to be tough for Boston to come back from that.

The obstruction call had to be made - what happened is literally the example of obstruction that's in the rule book; MLB Network put the wording on screen.

I don't know if it was intentional or not - he sure made no effort to get out of the way after not catching the ball. Pulling up the legs may have even been an instant reaction, but the right call was made. Too bad it ended that way, though.

Calling this series is tough because when both of these teams are good, which they are now, I would not want to bet against either of them.

Nothing is delicious as New England tears- I can drink it by the gallon.

How are the golf courses this time of year?

Because he was devastated that he didn't make the catch and thought the game was over?

I may have to reconsider my vote here.  I was thinking the Red Sox in six, but now they can only win in 6 or 7.  Momentum is definitely on the Cardinals' side and it is very possible that they could win the championship in front of their own crowd tomorrow night.  I still think it will shift back to Boston, but I'm thinking the Cardinals may win this one.

This is the kind of thing that would make a great story if Boston hadn't won ten championships in the past 12 years.

I think the fact that they are still reeling from the Boston Marathon bombings back in March, makes the city feel entitled to the World Series and for every call in the game to go their way.

Detroit would win in every sport every year if real world events had anything to do with sports.

I couldnt tell you. Not much free time to take up the hobby.  You should ask ex-ballplayers or fired coaches though, you know like ones who can't grasp the concept of a double switch Smiley

Go f**k yourself. You'd be pissed if the Thunder lost in the Finals on a little-known technicality too.

Sincerely,
the bleeding-heart New Englander/Sox fan who thinks it was the right call.

I absolutely agree that the call made was the correct one, but it's such a sh*tty way to lose a game.

Are you a Mets fan? If so, I'm sure you'd understand.

On a less hateful note, the only reason why I'm not mad is because the Cardinals are my NL team. Still will f(inks) with them if they win.

No problem with that.

Still, if anything Sox fans should be pissed at the fact that there was a runner on 2nd, one out in the 8th this game, and Bogaerts (who's been one of the better players this postseason) went out looking on three blown strike calls. Completely swung the momentum in STL's favor before Lackey got out of the jam.

I am a Mets fan. Sucks to be me but you stick with your team through thick and many years of thin now.

I dislike the whining quality of the Sox fan base but I will tip my cap that they know how to support their team, ie passionately. Real cool atmosphere at Fenway tonight.  Ive been to many games there and it is a treasure of the game.

This particular Sox team has really impressed me with their team game. They just blend together so well. Looks like their 3rd in 9 years right now.

I want to congratulate the Boston Red Sox for winning the 2013 World Series!
The last time the Sox won the world series at Fenway Park was in 1918, so they certainly deserve this.

Given some earlier comments on the forum, I was going to post a snide remark about how this made the Boston Marathon bombings worth it, but I like The Onion's take better.
