I'm jealous.

I've spent my fourth studying for the bar. A girl friend of mine from college came to visit me last night and we stayed up all night messing around till like 5am. It was nice, but now it's back to the grind. At least I could take out my frustrations on her for 12 hours.

Going to a work soirée tonight, pulled out my old suit and realized the pants are a size 31 while I'm a size 34, minimum. I will blame it on quitting smoking.

Seeing as how this will be a large celebration with a lot of work mates I am utterly terrified. I'm sure once we get into the evening and I've knocked back a few glasses of champagne it'll be alright, but the anxiety just before the event will be excruciating. Ugh.

I'm giving it a go at reviving the Survivor board with a chemical element survivor.  At the very least, it'll give the newbies who haven't seen one a chance to see what they are like.

Well, I suppose you've got to let out tension somehow.

Car broke down on the way to work, had to get it towed. Found out later today that I won't be able to travel out-of-state due to something called a "court date".

EDIT: Pretty sure I was supposed to call my superintendent when I got back to the House so he could order my housemate and I to a job site for the rest of the day, but we both feel like utter shyte (my breaking point being when I got the phone call telling me I couldn't leave the state for vacation) that it looks like it ain't happening. In any case, for an hour or two, it's been economically infeasible due to our vehicles' mileage and the distance to the job site (we'd take his car, which is even less efficient than mine).

Came home to water bubbling up from the drain of my apartment's kitchen sink. Disgusting.

Just a quick update, since I don't like talking about my personal life here much anymore...

I'm done with the Ambien for good as of today.  For some reason my reactions to the medication have become more severe than usual and that's why I ended up hallucinating big time last night.  I apologize for the scare I gave anyone and I promise that is the absolute last you'll see of me in that state.

I passed all three of my comprehensive/qualifying exams on the first try, meaning I'm a year and a half of specialization classes and a dissertation away from an economics PhD.

I just won't get more than 4.0 in my GRE essay part. That's frustrating, but at least I have good verbal and quantitative scores.

I screwed up on the essay too. When it displayed the time, I thought that was the amount of time I had for both essays when it was actually the time I had for each one. So I rushed through the first and got to the next one only to see the clock reset itself. Oh well. Still got into the masters programs I applied to.

I had the opposite problem actually. I am very slow at writing (actually, I'm very slow at thinking tbh, which means I'm slow at everything Tongue), and the first time I took the test the time ended when I had a few words left to write... I don't know how bad that was though, and the second time I managed to finish both essays on time, but they probably weren't very good.

I'm going to the first lecture to which I've been invited as a(n incoming) divinity school student tomorrow, although technically it's being held at another institution within the same regional consortium as mine.

Remind me which divinity school you were accepted to, again?

Despite not being able to leave the state, I'm still taking the week off at home. Gotta recover from work and spend some time seeing to my other duties.

Meanwhile, thanks to the power of electronic mail, I'm slowly working my way towards getting employment in UDM's Poli-Sci department and also talking to the Criminal Justice department about double majoring. My religion grade from last semester is still incomplete, and my professor is AWOL.

Ah, a UMC school.  Interesting choice.

Ah, a UMC school.  Interesting choice.

Almost all Episcopal Church divinity schools are either far too liberal or far too conservative theologically, and those that aren't are without exception insolvent basket cases or in unacceptable regions of the country. BUSTH is in-state, has an illustrious history, has a religiously diverse student body for a divinity school, is a campus with which several family members and friends are already familiar, and unlike some places I applied (COUGHYaleDivinitySchoolCOUGH) the people there were approachable, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the process, as opposed to being distant, aloof, impossible-to-contact weirdos with self-contradictory application rules.
