Translation: "Don't primary me far right, pretty pretty please?"

Actually I'm likely giving him too much credit, he probably is that stupid.

This is just stupid nonsense that only the religious right cares about. I mean he's really helping the democrats in Pennsylvania win the governorship next year with every gaffe he makes.

Translation: "Don't primary me far right, pretty pretty please?"

This could be argued, it is incredibly sad that a republican has to follow complete party lines and agenda to achieve any respect with far right primary voters.

Republicans would have a decent shot at winning if they ditched Corbett and nominated someone like Gerlach or Meehan, both of which ran in 2010 and then dropped out to pursue congressional bids. They both hail from Southeast PA, where even many Republicans hate Corbett. I see this as just him shoring up his right flank (Central PA) in case of a potential primary.

Of course, that won't help that he's trailing someone with about 30% name recognition by double digits in the polls, but I guess he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it (lol).

"It was an inappropriate analogy, you know," Corbett said. "I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don't you?"

The awkward silence after he says that...

Yeah and now there's talk again about a possible primary because many Republicans are very concerned.

And don't crown Schwartz yet. McCord is in and Kathy McGinty is a dark horse.

So his lawyers make a comparison to pedophilia, Corbett says it wasn't the best terminology and counters with incest.   This is basically what those against same-sex marriage have come down to arguing.

I hate to even half-defend someone with such a terrible position, but his point was (pretty clearly) that brother-sister marriage is a better analogy because it involves an informed, consenting relationship (unlike child-child marriage) that society considers morally or practically problematic for other reason.  The point of an analogy is that some components aren't alike...otherwise it's not an analogy.

His rhetoric isn't really out there for someone of his position, and substantively, his argument isn't that far-out either.  Completely, terribly wrong, but not as shocking as this thread makes it out to be.

He might become the first governor in Pennsylvania history to be voted out of office.

This homophobic idiot is just asking for it.....literally. He's basically just like Paul LePage; saying ridiculous comments because both of them know they're already Democratic locks.

Well, yeah but his smirk afterwards and his history of making interesting statements have people thinking otherwise.

Oh, he smirked afterwards?  Well that pretty much makes him an unempathetic ass even if his analogy isn't totally offensive

And this is the reason why the GOP can never win the youth vote because of stupid comments like what they said.  Time to kick out the social cons.

Uh no. If you don't like how certain positions are articulated, that's fine. Trying to kick out millions of voters to possibly win over others is asinine. And before you start with, "But the youth is the future!" please realize that those voters won't be socially liberal forever. Sure, being socially conservative thirty years from now will be different but that doesn't mean social conservatism will be non-existent. It's just like how social conservatism of 2013 is different from social conservatism of decades ago.

Yeah, and in 20-30 years, being opposed to gay marriage isn't going to be a socially conservative position, but a radical position like being a racist is today.

But being racist is a mainstream social conservative position today

You oppose social conservatism, but support a Paul/Cruz ticket?

I agree with your point, however. The GOP really should drop the socons, at least their current incarnation.
