Social Studies curriculum

patrick1:
I am writing a critique of the NY social studies curriculum for a class of mine.  I am a little far removed from the classroom as a student and have only been student teaching for a little while now- this board is frequented by many students and some educators- and many people with shall we say strong opinions on things.  Who would like to take some potshots at Social Studies curriculum.  What do you think is wrong or should be changed or added?  Are we stressing "diversity" too much?  etc.

dazzleman:
Patrick1, question for you:

What grade level are you thinking about?

patrick1:
Grades 6-12 but I am concentrating more on High school curriculum and standards.  Ive got quite a few things that annoy the hell out of me- I want to see if I am missing something or perhaps looking at something more.

Jake:
More concentration on how events shaped the present not different facts and figures.  This is PA though.

Curriculum is generally the same nationwide.  Thanks for the input.
