Well, it seems that the top 60 charitable donors last year primarily consist of uncaring, capitalist jackasses. Their total contributions consist of a paltry 6.1 billion dollars. Shame on those cheapskates.

ECA:
Um, did anyone expect them to come from poor socialists? :)

I'm as capitalistic as anyone, but I don't even think this will surprise opebo-types.

Gabu:
I see that the top three donated to their own foundations. :P

Still, it's not a surprise that those with the most amounts of money donated the most amounts of money.

I'd be interested to see the top donator going by a percentage of total wealth, however.

Dave from Michigan:
thats a lot more than I would have though

Not really a surprise either - it allows them to choose their own charity projects. Carnegie had his own pet project - building libraries for people - so it's not unexpected for others to do what they think will do good.

I'd like to see that too. I've read that the absolute total Bill Gates has donated over time is about half his total current wealth. I've also heard he's not going to leave his money to his kids - it'll mostly be going to charity.

Just a side note, that total above doesn't include unpaid pledges.
