Some people like to worship Jesus' mom. What do you think of that?

I vote Negative. She's important, but not a goddess.

Very few if any people 'worship' Mary.

My opinion of Marian devotion or veneration is of course strongly positive.

Fitting date for this thread today.

No one not actively and blasphemously worshipping Mary and other saints has ever pretended that this is a valid distinction, of course. Grin

Well, in the Christian faith, she is certainly a chosen one, no?  From the outside, I don't see anything wrong with it.

This.  Respecting, admiring, or venerating her is OK, but not worshiping her.

The "worshipping" this dawg is referring to, I suspect, in fact refers to what folks such as Catholics and maybe others are accused of, not the specific worship of the Virgin Mary.

46While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.a 48But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 50For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Given your own rather... "unorthodox" religious views, I shudder to hear what you'd think the "One True Church" would be.

If I were to convert to Christianity, which I might, I would certainly take Rome over the heretics.

Well that is a bit comforting.

Mary is not worshiped by the Catholic Church. She is honored.

In terms of early Christianity and Judeo-Christianity, Rome are the heretics Smiley

She was chosen to be the mother of Jesus, but she is still a sinner.  Jesus was the only perfect human being in the history of humanity and thus is the only one worthy of our worship.  He doesn't share the stage with anyone, not even his mother.

Who worships Mary?

Catholics revere her so women see a very positive female role model (with Jesus and most disciples as men), as well as a role model to all believers for her simply letting God's will be done.

They don't claim she has no sin, or that she's worshipped.

By perfect, do you mean he could never, ever let up a single hit in a baseball game?

Praying to the Theotokos is hardly worshiping.

Technical we Lutherans do honour Maria, but I don't think any would say we worshipped her.

Nobody should be prayed to, except for God Himself.

The whole purpose was to help pagans adapt who worshipped male and female deities.

This is the correct answer and the only reason why I voted "positive", though I have nothing against Pagan worships and especially nothing against feminine deities. On the other hand, I'm firmly agnostic.
