Brief

Hello all! If there is one piece of legislation I have written up to this point that I would like to be a token of my term as governor, it would be Tyrion's TNF Wage and Employment Reform Act. I believe strongly in workers' rights. While I was disappointed that TNF's Amendment to the Productivity Equalization and Worker Employment Act of 2011, I am not surprised at its demise. Thus, I scaled it back a bit and submitted it to the Pacific Council, but with teeth this time. The regulations are a little less stringent, especially on small businesses, but there are now built-in, specific consequences for violators of overtime pay regulations.

I also worked in fmr GM Adam Griffin's estimate of minor a market-wide wage drop by raising the minimum wage. At this point, it's a modest 1.14% above the federal rate for 2014, but that will scale up to 2.5% for 2014, and both of those numbers are direct translations of the drop in wages as a result of more stringent overtime regulation.

Meanwhile, I also offered a more forgiving tax incentive system for employers in a separate bill. The federal gov't is in position to pass a bill giving a $4000 tax break per hired employee for companies under 50 people. The Pacific will extend that break to companies below 250 people to combat its rampant unemployment problem.

There will be more unemployment-mitigating regulation to come.

Thoughts?

Endorsed. You've been more active in the most recent legislative session than most sitting Senators.

Thank you, Mr. President!

The Council Elections are now open. Do note that JacobTiver's vote is invalidated because it was posted before voting was opened.

I don't know what the Pacific Constitution says but the Mideast Constitution doesn't specify what should be done in such a situation; it is clearly forbidden to alter your ballot after 20 minutes or to vote after the voting period is over, but that's it. Thus, when a similar case occured in our region some time ago we simply let the voter in question vote again during the regular voting period and ignored his vote that was cast too early.

That's what I was thinking, too. I'm consulting with my legal aides as we speak.

In any case, what I DO know is that JacobTiver's vote from before the vote opened is most definitely invalidated, and he deleted it anyway.

I did delete it and it was after the 20 minute time limit of editing your vote.

I would like to thank the elected representatives of the Pacific for boldly going where the sclerotic, reactionary Atlasian Right would not allow the nation as a whole to go. Your success shall be a model for the nation, you have my word.
