Been everywhere but Alaska and ND. Slept everywhere else but WV, Alabama, CT, Delaware, and RI. Have lived in CA, Illinois and MI (collecting degrees), and NY. NJ too if our flat in Hoboken (the most beautiful city in America) counts. Smiley

Including Ceuta and Melilla I've actually been to most of them. Only ones missing would be:

-Ceuta
-Melilla
-Murcia
-Balearic Islands
-Extremadura

So I've been to 14/19. However Asturias and Cantabria I visited only as a small child and can barely remember anything. So more like 12/19.

Worth noting if I use provinces, the ampunt of places I have been in goes down considerably

Edit: forgot to add it, but I have also driven through Girona province as well

My metric for residence is whether you have stayed at an address for at least two months, and received mail addressed to you at that address, with at most an occasional night or weekend away. It's quite possible to have more than one residence concurrently if each is used as a primary residence during part of the year.

For example, I had residence on Long Island for four months while my thesis experiment was running at Brookhaven lab, even though most of my belongings were still at my Waltham MA grad school apartment. I returned to MA a couple of times during that stretch and I did a weekend or two in NYC, but I had my mail forwarded to my lab address.

BTW it seems like this thread should be in the master thread for this topic, particularly for US states.

Not counting layovers or just driving through.

New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia Florida, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, California. Oh, and DC if that counts

I think that's it. About the only one I can think of that would have counted as driving through with at most stopping for gas would have been possibly Alabama, driving back from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to Ohio while stopping to visit my uncle and Aunt who lived in Knoxville at the time. Any other states like Illinois, Georgia, or Massachusetts would have just been layovers on a Flight.

Illinois, Massachusetts, Hawaii, and Colorado are all on my want to visit list in that order.

Edit. I'm not actually entirely 100% sure about Delaware. I know that when I was a kid my family went to vacation at Ocean City Maryland several Summers, which is right on the Maryland Delaware border. I'm guessing we may have driven north of the city limits at some point to go to a restaurant in a nearby Delaware town, but that's just speculation. I know you were all sweating that detail, so now you can return to your normal lives. Or at least as normal as they get for Atlas.

Interesting question... is there a German state I've never been to?

I believe I have at least traversed them all. Specifically, this had been the case with Saarland, on my way to France. I recall being in Baden-Württemberg and Bremen for at least a day visit. And I must have visited all the other states for longer than a day, meaning I slept in them.

Lived in Texas for 7 months. California for just over 23 years.

Hoping to get orders stateside after I’m done here in December. My next destination will likely be either Spokane WA, Tampa FL, or possibly Mildenhall UK.

Last year I completed visiting all 50 states, so I thought I would change my reporting of the states where I haven't lived to how many different counties (or equivalent) have I slept in by state. To count as slept in I require that I slept at least 4 hours while not in a moving vehicle. To count as a residence I had to sleep there at least two months and receive mail to that address.

90% (resided): IL, IA, MA, MN, NE, NY, TX
80% (6 or more counties slept): CA, CO, FL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MI, MO, OH, PA, TN, VA, WI
70% (5 counties slept in): AL, GA, NC
60% (4 counties slept in): AR, CT, HI, ID, ME, MT, NH, NJ, SC
50% (3 counties slept in): AZ, ND, SD, UT, WA, WY
40% (2 counties slept in): DE, MS, NV, RI, VT, WV
30% (1 county slept in): AK, DC, LA, NM, OK, OR
If blue, then all counties have been visited in the state

This month I completed visiting all the counties in TN and FL. There are 2512 counties (or equivalents) visited in all 50 states, and 22 states (+DC) where all the counties have been visited.

Red for residences (at least 2 months including mail received). Dark blue for overnight stay (4 or more continuous hours of sleep not in a moving vehicle). Light blue for intentional destinations. Green for drive through (including meal stops). Yellow for train, boat or airport only.

Here's the state level view, based on residences and counties slept in. To count as slept in I require that I slept at least 4 hours while not in a moving vehicle. To count as a residence I had to sleep there at least two months and receive mail at that address.

90% (resided): IL, IA, MA, MN, NE, NY, TX
80% (10 or more counties slept in): FL, KY, OH, PA, WI
70% (6-9 counties slept in): CA, CO, GA, IN, KS, MD, MI, MO, TN, VA,
60% (4-5 counties slept in): AL, AR, CT, HI, ID, ME, MT, NH, NJ, NC, SC

CA, obviously.

For Thanksgiving 2017 I went by car for a trip in Seattle, and drove through OR (spent the night in Ashland, Oregon, and drove through the rest of Oregon the next day). Westward, I've spent the night in Nevada (Las Vegas). I've been in a car in UT before but I'm pretty sure I didn't spend the night in UT or exit the car much at all. In AZ, yes, I was in Phoenix once for a few days around Thanksgiving 2018.

Farther east, I lived in New Jersey in 2008 and 2009 and visited NYC, Massachusetts and Connecticut as well (though unsure if I spent the night in MA and CT). Maybe a few other states in that region.

In the southeast, I took a flight to Atlanta in April 2018, spent the night in the Atlanta suburbs, and then went by car to Orlando, Florida, where I stayed for several days.

Final: CA, OR, WA, NV, UT, AZ, NJ, CT, MA, NY, GA, FL

Updating my travels.

This summer, I took a 3-day driving trip, and I added Wisconsin and the Dakotas to the list of states I've visited.

In September, I went to New Jersey and flew into JFK for the first time, so I increased my number of NYC boroughs from 1 to 4.

(In NYC, I was surprised that you can see the Manhattan skyline all the way from Canarsie.  Specifically, from where the Belt Parkway crosses Paerdegat Basin.)
